Scotland to take part in Las Vegas triple-header

SCOTLAND will be playing in Las Vegas next February, in a triple-header of matches with the USA.

The Bravehearts are to send men’s, women’s and youth sides to play their American counterparts alongside the NRL and Super League’s return to Nevada.

A date and location for the games is yet to be confirmed but Scotland Rugby League co-chair Alistair McVicar said: “We are very excited to send three teams over to America next February to play the USA Hawks.

“Being part of the NRL and Super League’s Festival of Rugby League in Las Vegas is a an exciting opportunity for all of the Scotland players, coaches and management.”

The Scotland men’s side have fallen down the international pecking order in recent years, and are currently ranked 22nd in the world.

Their only fixtures since losing all three matches at the 2022 World Cup came last autumn, against the Netherlands – a 34-26 away defeat with a team of exclusively domestic-based players – and a 6-36 loss to Ireland in Gateshead.

They were unable to enter qualifying for the next World Cup because the country lost full International Rugby League membership last year, and are without a head coach after Nathan Graham recently stepped down.

Scotland only played their first women’s international earlier this month, a highly creditable 18-12 defeat in Wales, but intend to play further games against the England Community Lions and Jamaica this autumn.

The main rugby league action in Las Vegas will take place at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, February 28, the third annual event organised by the NRL.

Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos follow in the footsteps of Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves, who played the first Super League game there last year.

Their match will be followed by two NRL season-opening fixtures as Canterbury Bulldogs face St George Illawarra Dragons and Newcastle Knights play North Queensland Cowboys.
