ST HELENS have confirmed that halfback Jonny Lomax suffered a fractured jaw in Thursday’s 18-6 defeat at home to Warrington Wolves.
The 35-year-old came off after just 15 minutes of the contest following a collision with Warrington fullback Josh Thewlis and is now set for surgery.
“We are hoping that will happen as soon as possible,” said the club.
That was only his tenth appearance of the season, after being sidelined for two months by a wrist injury suffered in February.
While no timescale has been specified for the injury, a typical rehabilitation from a jaw fracture would take at least two months.
Three months still remain of the regular season, with Saints now in a battle to make the play-offs after a third straight defeat.
Lomax’s contract expires at the end of this year and it is uncertain whether or not the former skipper, who has 388 club appearances to his name over 18 seasons, will be offered a new one.
Asked about Lomax’s future after the Warrington game, Saints head coach Paul Rowley said: “I’d always like Jonny around, in whatever capacity, because he’s a champion player and champion bloke.”
In the meantime, Jackson Hastings will be back available for the home clash with Huddersfield Giants next Sunday (June 21) after serving a two-match suspension.
