CHRIS CHESTER was delighted with the fighting spirit of his Castleford Tigers side after battling back late to claim an important win.
There have been two weeks of real turbulence off the field with head coach Ryan Carr absent.
Director of rugby Chester was again part of the coaching team at Hull FC and oversaw an 18-14 victory, their first in four.
“I thought we were the best side and showed some real toughness and resilience, which is what we’ve been missing for the last few weeks,” he said.
“I’m really pleased for the boys after a tough week. I think the pressure was off coming away from home and I’m really proud of them all.”
After falling away in the second half of their last few outings, Chester was especially pleased with his side’s ability to respond under pressure.
“They (Hull) were always going to come back at us but I was really proud of the response and how we came back to score and get over the line,” he explained.
“That’s what Castleford Tigers is all about – grit and fight. They did the badge proud tonight.
“It’s been a challenging period for the board, the players, the fans and everyone involved but you could see a group of players who were really committed to the club and to the badge, but we need to back it up again next week at St Helens.”
