MARK APPLEGARTH paid compliments to Hull KR after their 38-6 victory over his York Knights.
But he felt his team could have done much more to compete with the Robins.
“We started brightly, and definitely had the intent,” said coach Applegarth.
“But for us it’s about controlling the moments when on the front foot. In some patches we did but other patches we do need to get better as individuals and as a collective.
“Sometimes you’ve got to tip your hat to them and say we got outplayed – Hull KR are the world club champions – but other times we made it hard for ourselves.
“When you make five or six yardage errors and invite that much pressure on you, with players of their star quality it will take some defending.
“We have to keep level heads and give them time to figure it out. They’re humans. We know they’ll make mistakes but we have to give people time to build partnerships and have a go.”
Back-rower Harvey Reynolds, technically on loan from partner club Newcastle, caught Applegarth’s eye.
He said: “I thought young Harvey Reynolds was outstanding for his second Super League game, especially coming back to his boyhood club.
“He can be really proud of the performance he put in.”
David Nofoaluma missed the game with flu, Applegarth confirmed.
