WARRINGTON WOLVES prop Max Wood has been recalled from his loan at Hull FC halfway through its intended duration.
The 21-year-old joined Hull two weeks ago and appeared off the bench in their home matches against Huddersfield Giants (won 36-12) and Wakefield Trinity (lost 36-10).
While Wood signed on a month-long basis, Warrington have chosen to recall him early, and he will be available for their home game with Catalans Dragons on Thursday.
Head coach Sam Burgess recently responded to fan criticism of the fact Wood had only appeared four times so far this season, taking him to 31 Wire appearances in total.
He said Wood remained part of the club’s long-term plans, explaining: “There are parts of his game that I’ve challenged him on.
“We’ve put a lot of time into Max over the last two-and-a-half years and it’s right that he’s well-liked by fans. He’s a great player and everyone can see that.
“This decision is for the good of Max’s development, to make him a better player in the long run for Warrington. Over time, the fans will hopefully understand that.”
Warrington were concerned about an ankle injury to overseas prop Toafofoa Sipley following last Thursday’s 34-6 defeat to Leeds Rhinos.
Sipley is expected to be out for two or three weeks, Burgess confirmed on Monday.
