Whitehaven look to other events for revenue ahead of fixture gap

WHITEHAVEN have urged fans to buy tickets for a series of events in the club bar at the Ortus REC as they face a month with just one home fixture – against North Wales Crusaders on Sunday.

Between then and the visit of Swinton, and former coach Anthony Murray, on Sunday, July 12, Haven are showing the England football team’s World Cup matches live on a big screen and staging an evening with Alan Tait.

The event involving the former dual-code Great Britain back is on Saturday, June 20 (from 6.00).

Tait, now 61, emerged as a rugby talent at Scottish borders club Kelso, going on to play for Newcastle, whom he later coached, and Edinburgh as well as 27 times for Scotland and twice for the Lions.

Between 1988 and 1996, he played Rugby League for Widnes and Leeds and won 14 Great Britain caps as well as representing Scotland on four occasions.

England’s World Cup group games are against Croatia on Wednesday, June 17 (9.00pm UK time), Ghana on Tuesday 23 (9.00pm) and Panama on Saturday 27 (10.00pm).

“Events like this are going to be really important for us,” said the club.
