Nomadic prop Samy Kibula making an impact at Swinton Lions

SWINTON LIONS coach Anthony Murray is hoping for more big things from powerhouse prop Samy Kibula.

The former Wigan and Warrington player has been hampered by injuries, including a long-term knee issue last year, but has made six appearances for Swinton this season and scored tries in the past two, against Rochdale and Halifax..

Kibula, 26, who was signed from Batley over the close-season and has also had stints at Bradford and Castleford as well as being farmed out to a number of clubs, had honed his fitness with a run-out for Leigh Reserves.

And Murray said: “I’m pleased for Samy. He’s been working really hard and he made an impact against Rochdale. Hopefully there’s more to come.”

Kibula was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo before the family moved to the UK and settled in the Wigan area.

He caught the eye playing both Rugby League and union as a junior and came through the Wigan development system to play once for the first team in 2018 after a senior debut on loan at Swinton.

Kibula made two appearances for Warrington in 2020 and six for Castleford in 2024.
