Wigan came from behind twice, but eventually proved too strong in the final quarter for Daryl Powell’s side.
Denny Solomona put Castleford ahead before Lewis Tierney responded for Shaun Wane’s men.
Matty Smith’s penalty gave Wigan an 8-6 lead at half-time, but the Tigers hit the front when Grant Millington went in under the posts.
However, Wigan kept applying pressure, with tries through Bateman (2) and a first Wigan try for Nick Gregson securing victory.
