Wigan Warriors winger hoping to be fit for play-offs

Wigan Warriors winger Joe Burgess has revealed he is targeting a return to full fitness in time for the Super League play-offs – despite initially being expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Burgess has been a revelation since bursting onto the scene this year, with the 19-year-old already having scored 19 times in 2014. However, despite a nasty knee injury against Catalan Dragons last month looking like ruling him out for the remainder of the season, he said the under-19s clash against Bradford on August 28 is his target – which will be perfect timing for the Warriors’ onslaught on the play-offs.

“I’ve been in rehab so I’ve still had to follow my programme,” Burgess told the Wigan Evening Post. “I’m still a few weeks away and can only do light weights on it. Hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m running again.”

“That’s just before we play Warrington and Leeds so hopefully I can get back into the team for those and have played before the play-offs,” Burgess said.

“I had an aim last year of playing 10 to 15 games and I’ve already done that – now I really want to win some trophies.”
