MARK APPLEGARTH has made the startling revelation that he is ‘disappointed’ in himself following York Knights’ losing run.
The Knights have lost four games on the bounce, with their latest defeat coming against Bradford Bulls last weekend.
That defeat left York second bottom of the Super League table, with only Huddersfield Giants below them.
And Applegarth feels he has not got things right over the past month.
“I don’t know if I’ve been getting my messaging right in the past three or four weeks when we’ve been going through a sticky period,” Applegarth said.
“I thought we looked a little bit shackled, we lacked a bit of our DNA. We are about backing ourselves to take opportunities and I thought we didn’t do that and that’s on me as a head coach.
“I don’t know if I’ve been getting too frustrated and people making errors is because they are feeling pressure off me.
“I have had to make sure my messages were positive or clear and that the players weren’t scared to play what’s in front of them.
“I’m disappointed with myself first and foremost. I think the guts are there in the team, they showed up for each other from minute one to 80.
“We won’t be blaming anyone bar ourselves. I felt for a York team and the standard we want to hit, I don’t think we were quite there.
“You’ve got to make sure you keep everyone conjoined and keep the unit we’ve got and have honest conversations behind the scenes.”
