Just finished watching the last episode of series two of 'Les Revenants.' Loved every minute, even if the second series was a bit complicated.

And as with the first series, great soundtrack by Mogwai.

Series2? What channel was that on?

It's crminal that players like Murphy, Hanley, Schofield,Gregory and Myler to name only a few are not passing on their knowledge ala Andrew Johns to todays players.
Johns, Langer and Lockyer etc are not castaway by the Aussies why are ours?they revere their players another thing they do better than us :(

bobbruce

You take your present England team and i will take Schofield, Hanley, Offiah, Connolly, Newlove, Gregory, Powell, Davies, Edwards, Platt, Steadman, Hampson, Clarke,Crooks etc and give them access to everything the modern player has and i think my team would win :)

Yep, it's a ridiculous argument to say no player from the past would be any good in today's game as if the players from yesteryear would be playing and training as they would have done years ago

I will get shot down by many but I really believe that the players then did seem a lot more skilful. It just seemed more exciting to watch also.

Yes they players of today are skilful athletes but that athleticism has taken something from the game I love. Add in immense size, power, strength, fitness, wrestling, playing the %, numerous interchanges and you have a game that is sometimes quite boring to watch.

i would love to see some changes made to the game to open it out. More fatigue and a bit more contestable situations...Just my imo

Schofield was a good player at his best, but his best wasn't that long a time and he was an abysmal coach

I'd also say if he had to play against the defences of the modern game he'd not stand a chance - just watch games back then and the defensive lines are so abysmal I'm amazed each game wasn't a blow out

I wonder who "this generations" controvertial halfback will be saying "it were better in my day"?

My bet is on Briers...

Schofield was a natural rugby league player imo..Give him the same access to facilitates, training and diet and he would still have been a star today better defences or not.

is he actually saying things were better in his day or just that we need a creative coach and creative half-backs if we want to be the best?

I have a horrible feeling that MacNamara will be kept on as coach and we will once again be gallant losers next year.

But haven't the Aussies dominated for so long because the have had good packs, good backs and very good creative half-backs?

Now the Kiwis have creative half-backs they are challenging that dominance.

I'd thought they would have had 50,000 today given all the advertising from the RFL went into this game.

I can sense your disappointment
