All three did well in the first round - Roche, Dodd and Goldthorp picked up tries and I thought Travis was pretty good on her debut in the NRLW.

Sport England participation survey 2023-24
Dunbar replied to Dunbar's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
So, here is the funny part, and probably part of the reason why I am back. I saw the new Sports England survey was out and thought I should post about it. So, rather than trying to find my last post on search here, I Googled 'Dunbar TotalRL Sports England'. Anyway, as well as the search, a whole AI description came up of Dunbar and his views, his contributions and thoughts on Rugby League. I thought, that's cool, I wonder what it says about the real me... so I googled my name and business and £#%& all came up. It was at that point that I realised that my life's work was on here! -
As the dominant player from the dominant club side in Australia, I think we all expected Cleary to do more in State of Origin. But he has played in 3 winning series (as above) and has two player of the match awards which is more than Mal Meninga, Brett Kenny, Steve Mortimer and Shane Webcke amassed in their State of Origin careers, so while not excelling, he hasn’t been awful.

Not specifically Lewis but in general. If a player has been knocked out or badly dazed and showing category 1 symptoms then I am very happy that he is being stood down for the obligatory period to help his recovery. If a player has feigned injury in order to potentially get an opposite in trouble then I am happy with them being stood down for the obligatory period. The medical staff just need to do the right thing and not second guess these things.

Sport England participation survey 2023-24

The data in the report shows a +34% year on year increase in women's football, +17% in cricket, + 26% in League and -14% in Union. Again, worth pointing out that only football is labelled 'Significant increase' and so the confidence is high that it is statistically valid. But I would rather any data be showing a +26% increase over a 14% decline. -

I think this needs to be put into context with participation in women's Rugby Union falling for two years now. According to the data, women's participation in Rugby League is at 52% of Union levels now (we are at 29% on the men's data), considering the footprint of the two sports, I think that is significant. -

I agree with this as well. Of course it is right that the appropriate caveats are included in the data, but it is better to see the numbers going up rather than down. Particularly as Sport England are an important body in initiatives and funding designed to increase participation in sports and physical activity. I would rather their official data show we are growing. -

Yes, I edited my post to say this as well. -

It is a little frustrating. The vast majority of the data shows no significant change which, as they explain, indicates whether changes observed across survey years are likely to be ‘true’ changes in the population, rather than just observed by chance. It does somewhat negate the value of the survey for a lot of the activities. -

It says no change on the column labelled significance. That is different to a statistical change. You can have a statistical change while still labelling that change no significance. Columns P, Q & R show the rate % of population and then the 95% lower and upper confidence level. Comparing these values to the 2022/23 data shows a clear statistical change. The change is 0.12% to 0.16% of population. Edit to the above: the significance label is not a commentary but a description of trust in whether the change in the data is real or potentially down to chance. So while there has been a change, we cannot be sure that this change is reflective of the actual population. The whole thing is frustrating, but that is how statistics work I suppose. -

Sorry, where does it say 'no statistical change'? -
