  1. You're right, it's daft to say 'the only way is......' There are a myriad of ways forward for the game, many of which will hasten the demise for clubs at our level. The trick will be for someone to find the one which will put the various levels of the game back on a more even footing. Simple, eh? As for strategy, one strategy may be to make the differences in reward between the elite level and all others less great. This may stop 2 or 3 clubs a season piling in money to chase the single (and now smaller than ever) chance per year to be invited to partake in the spoils. But that's not going to happen either. The great thing about being old is that it's like being a Liberal Democrat politician. You can claim to have all the answers in the comfortable knowledge that your ideas will never be put to the test. As an old codger you can be happy in the knowledge that you have seen the best there ever was to see, and whatever anybody else thinks the future will never be as good as the golden times of the past. Yes, us oldies have a lot going for us, unlike the game itself which faces so many.problems.
  2. Thanks for the laughing face. You're a sport.
  3. I like Coolie's post, and there is so much sense in it, but it really won't happen. The only way forward for those who are permanently unwelcome in Super Duper League is to make their own arrangement with free to view TV and go forward on that basis. Form their own management structure and let the elite do their own thing. I actually think the best time to go this way was a few seasons ago when the right to automatic promotion ended and the million dollar game was introduced. However, we will only get less and less scraps off of the Sky table as time goes on. I also think that Championship rugby, in particular is a far better game than at the top level. The game there is ruined by the TV people's demand for ever more movement at any cost.
  4. Sorry, but, FearNothing, but make sure you wear your sun screen. Just teasing a bit.
  5. 'Those who are interested please contact Elsie Fryer' The life of the club will seem a little empty for some time without hearing Elsie's name involved. Bless you Elsie. Hope that wherever you are there is a rugby league club that needs something organising. If so they've just dropped lucky
  6. That cramp in the fingers can be terrible.
  7. Haven't we finished building the fortress yet then? That's a shame.
  8. In other words the person in charge of the Goole players fired them with a will to win the match, and came up with a plan to play the game how they wanted to instead of in a way that suited Dewsbury. I know its a concept that not everyone can grasp, but might that be called coaching then?
  9. I agree on all counts. What a night that was, and a miracle winning drop goal into the teeth of a gale.
  10. 8-6 and 5-4. I think results like this bode really well for the future of the game in England. If defences begin to dominate then clubs will begin to look for footballers with the skills to open them up. Ultimately we may then turn up another Roger Millward, Alex Murphy, Tommy Bishop or the like.(sorry to all the great footballers I've missed out) We could then rebuild the international team in our own style of play, stop chasing the Aussues at their own game, and start to beat them again. Hopefully all this to happen before I shuffle off this mortal coil, but I aren't holding my breath.
  11. I was hoping someone else would ask or say something to explain it, but it seems I'll have to show my ignorance. What does the reference to the ducks mean?
  12. That would do nicely, thank you.
  13. Oh no, not another one legged wonder. One day one of these gambles will pay off. Let's hope it's now.
  14. Will the telly be there, because the way they have set themselves up in the past has had a large negative effect on the capacity. Not that it mattered then, but it will if Wigan are coming.
  15. Will the South Stand turnstiles be open then? Oh, and will there be beer in the South Stand bar?
