Saying goodbye to a pet
Wiltshire Warrior Dragon replied to Chrispmartha's topic in Any Other Business / Any Other Sports
Thanks for sharing this. Mrs WWD and I have had to decide to have our pet dogs put to sleep a couple of times. It is always hard. Our last dog trundled on happily in his later life, but then, one day, I realised he was no longer looking forward to his meals and his morning walk; even when the latter was down to a few hundred yards, he was still keen to go. So we called in the vet and I was grateful that she took the trouble to say she thought we had got the timing right, based on what I said - not too soon, not too late. You mention that your cat deteriorated very quickly at the end. I think that is probably a blessing in disguise. Enjoy still having her brother. -
Magic weekend mooted for France
Wiltshire Warrior Dragon replied to lucky 7's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
The French do have their own leagues, JB. Coincidentally, so do the English. Strangely, they both have shares in a combined league; it's called Super League Europe. Roll on the day when the NRL takes over Super League and pays for all travel costs before then, and only then, giving each club their share - and making each club's share the same as the other ones. (Okay, I admit it; I may be going just a wee bit off topic...) -
The Musing Goose

It's not a new thing, HG. Local council planning departments understandably get visited a lot by estate agents on behalf of their clients. When I worked in the one in Skipton, it was possible to go into our general office and tell that a particular local estate agent had been in just by virtue of the after shave smell that lingered on after his visit. This could last for at least half-an-hour! -
I had my Frederick Delius moment this morning in the New Forest; I heard my first cuckoo call this spring. The abnormally early bird I mentioned last month was silent as it flew by. That is quite usual. I have heard a cuckoo call in flight, but I think that most of their calling is done when they are sat in trees.

Not a fan of Captain's Challenge
Wiltshire Warrior Dragon replied to The Daddy's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Your suggestion has a sort of precedent in another sport, Simon. Under IIHF rules (and probably NHL ones too), the captain of an ice hockey team can ask the referees to measure certain dimensions of an opponent's stick (I think in particular the curve of the blade) As you might imagine, this rule is rarely exercised. If the referees, having measured the allegedly offending stick find it to be legal, the team of the captain who asked for the measurement must send a player to the penalty box for a minor penalty, and hence play four skaters against five for two minutes or until they concede a goal. -
I share dboy's view that it makes sense for each game in a league competition to be worth an equal number of points. I would much prefer the game to end after 80 minutes, with two for a win, one each for a draw and none for a defeat. If we must have golden point, I would make it four points for a win in 80 minutes, three for a GP win, two for a draw, one for a GP defeat and none for a defeat after 80 minutes. I would only use GP in knock-out matches, i.e. play-offs and the challenge cup.

The locals should be careful. Too much sex makes a Venetian blind!
