Three consortia in line for Halifax Panthers revival bid

THREE consortia are in line to launch separate bids to revive Halifax Panthers, League Express understands.

It follows the news that the West Yorkshire club has had its RFL membership removed after being placed into compulsory liquidation in a High Court hearing on Monday, whilst Halifax’s home fixture with Sheffield Eagles on Sunday has also been postponed.

The parent company Halifax Rugby League Football Club Limited is to be liquidated after a petition brought by HMRC over unpaid tax was granted on Monday.

Hope remains at The Shay, however, as three separate parties begin preparing their bids to recover the club from the ashes.

And the club have publicly invited expressions of interest, with a deadline of next Wednesday (February 18).

It is not yet considered inevitable that Halifax will be unable to complete the Championship season.

Fax have a bye in round four, and there is hope that a potential bid could be successful by the time of their fixture against Barrow Raiders on Sunday, March 1.
