Brett Ferres apologises for ‘spear’ tackle

Huddersfield Giants forward Brett Ferres has issued a public apology regarding the ‘spear’ tackle that saw him sent off – and subsequently banned for five games – following the tackle on St Helens’ Jonny Lomax.

With the Giants in front 16-8 with just 15 minutes left, Ferres saw red for the controversial tackle on the St Helens full-back. The Giants went on to lose a controversial fixture 17-16 due to a late Luke Walsh drop-goal.

And Ferres took to social media to apologise for his actions, writing:  “I would just like to publically apologise to Jonny Lomax for the incident that occurred on Sunday; I would never intentionally put someone in a position that could potentially injure them.

“There was no intent or malice in the tackle and I am glad that Jonny is okay.

“I have accepted my punishment and hopefully we won’t see any more incidents like this in the game.”
