  1. Jeez the knives are out a bit early after the season we have just had aren't they? What exactly do you all want them to say? That they are sitting on their hands doing nowt and waiting to see what players are left so we can get them cheaper, or working as hard as possible to get the best squad they can to survive in the Champ. Our club obviously have a strategy of how the squad is being built and how they think they can maximise the interest in the club during the off season to build up for when next seasons shirts & season tickets are announced. My guess would be they will step up with a number of re-signings, and new signings to get the interest bubbling along ready for when the season tickets and new shirt are announced to get some money turning over before Xmas. Yes it was surprising to see empty columns in the LoveRL article, and even more surprising to me that a couple of clubs look done and dusted, but the season hasn't started yet so keep the toys in the pram a bit longer kids.

  3. That’s true. Anecdotal yes, but I regularly cycle a few miles my area and pass a number of housing estates and the silence is deafening. Those streets used to filled with noise with kids playing. In addition to being less active (from what I gather anyway), society is much more conscious about safety when it comes to playing sports, with much greater scrutiny on collision based sports. I’ve largely ditched RU as physically players now look like transformers (to steal another quote from Jonathan Liew), and no longer resemble humans (“80% neck”). The flair (and there wasn’t that much previously) has largely gone. It’s dominated by mammoth sized blokes colliding, and now there are court cases galore. It’s baffling that the physicality/danger has increased, just as society has become more safety conscious. And these are supposedly intelligent people running the game. Bonkers. I will hold on to my memories of Brian O’Driscoll (especially the early years before the size really took off) as it’s unlikely that form of RU will be seen again. The result of this transformation of RU is it has never had a lower profile than it does now, with not a solitary household name in the UK. Stars cannot emerge as physically it’s too stifling for attacking play. Each RUWC passes and not a single individual emerges, they can’t. RL has an opportunity to fill this increasing void left by RU’s self inflicted demise by going back to playing a more open attacking game. There’s nothing as appealing in rugby than seeing a slick attacking sequence (dummies, long runs...a Rob Burrow in the grand final)...have plenty more of that, and less of the more attritional stuff, and RL will advertise itself and thrive.

  4. Imagine having these as your colours and thinking they weren't good enough.

  5. I think the club has been trying to manage fans expectations by talking about building for the future due to the funding uncertainty. I think next season will be more about stabilizing the club rather than pushing for automatic promotion but it depends on all the other clubs recruitment as well and their financial strength.

  7. In the handful of games when Brendan was injury free he was excellent - three man of the matches in the first three games if my memory serves me correctly. Can’t wait to see a fully fit Brendan pulling the strings once again.

  8. As someone who has lived in Liverpool for 20 years I can say that it is a non starter. There is zero interest in rugby or any other team sport that isn’t football and that will never change.

  9. OK. And how many of them play professional Rugby League, to a level where England would select them?

  11. He played for Sheffield so the only way is up after last seasons league tables, I'd be excited if I'd played under Tubby then going to play under Ford.. Going from playing in a borrowed stadium hitching up your caravan every 2 weeks to playing at your gaff... So he's excited is he

  14. Think the KR jersey is ok. Don’t think the hoops are necessary to be honest. Having them so low down just doesn’t have the right aesthetic for me. Either put them in the right place or maybe just don’t bother. Proportionately I think the hoops look a bit too big also. In the first lock down I did a few designs of team kits, though never posted on here, maybe I’ll take another look at doing some for 2022.

  16. Think of made in Leeds channel on UK TV, you have to look and really want to find the channel to find it, it's hidden amongst the other hundreds of channels only people who are interested in the certain subject watch, it covers the Occitanie region on TV, it's also on the internet.

  17. I agree, we need another couple of older heads. I can see why there appears to be a wholesale clear out, last year's squad just didn't cut the mustard. New young blood can't be any worse. But they need on field guidance. Ridyard is one but we need two more players who've been round the block.

  18. Aye, totally agree. We also don’t need the 2 small white hoops either - was never part of the 1882 design. I get why they’ve gone for red with a blue band as it’s our 140th anniversary next season, but don’t think this is a great execution.

  22. Have to say I don’t know how Cas get it so consistently wrong. Horrible yet they have or had great colours to work with and they have a tiger for a moniker, a tiger!!! It doesn’t get cooler than that yet Cas continually make their kits look truly cheap with the odd exception.

  23. The Saints Community Development Foundation covers the whole of the Liverpool City Region. Specifically for schools it covers 4 main areas; Rugby camps, Development camps, Girls development camps and School development & coaching which motivates kids in PE & sport with a RL slant across primary & secondary schools (which aims to focus on the point Shropshire Bull raised about kids in general not playing sport). So in answer to your question yes they do have a schools programme that covers Liverpool and for kids of all ages.

  25. Lack of funding is why there aren't RL clubs across the United Kingdom. I'm not saying everyone would defect from Union and football en masse but if money was spent on development officers and setting clubs up etc there would be an increase in playing numbers at a junior level. Newcastle Thunder have proved this

  26. As Tony Collins says in his podcast, a sport that gets in there first is a major factor for catching on in an area. While that is undoubtedly true, where I disagree with him is him not seeing the different appeal of each sport that also makes it catch on...fact is sports are different. Some are just more appealing than others. It’s not merely by chance that football and basketball are the two biggest team sports on the planet, or that tennis and golf are the two biggest individual sports. Regardless of where you are from or who you support, chances are you have access to playing both football and basketball, whether that’s in your own garden (football net), side of house/garage (basketball hoop), or the local playing field/court, or school, or sports club etc. The reason they are the most accessible to play is due to their gameplay. The inherent advantages being able to express yourself/manipulate the ball with it being round (execute tricks, flicks etc.), the satisfaction of shooting into a net, and then there’s finishing the game in one piece. I played basketball as a kid despite having never seen an actual game on tv until I was 17 (and that was the only time I watched it) so you don’t need to be brought in up a basketball (or football) household to play it. Very few who aren’t from the heartlands (or have no family connection) of a collision based sport will pick it up as such gameplay is an acquired taste. It’s footage of skills that predominantly go viral not hits, hence Messi, Federer, Jordan and co. are the megastars and millions try to emulate their plays. Ultimately any collision based sport will always play second fiddle to one that isn’t. It’s for this reason that the rugby codes need to revert back to a more open, attacking era as they are too geared towards the attritional stuff. A Rangi Chase type dominated game would see RL soar as that kind of expression is what is most appealing (if I had a rugby ball I’d have been practicing that move he pulled off).

  27. Even the club didn't no what league we were going to be in a few weeks ago surely they were still in talks with the main spine off the team about re singings and if we havnt already sorted the retained players I'd be worried at this stage most teams will be starting pre season within the next 4 to 6 weeks as its a fast turn around The club was fast at trying to engage with fans prior to the final but since we've heard nothing which is a big shame as it was a perfect chance to keep fans that didn't come to most games

  30. I'm trying to work out whether your just playing dumb & ignorant or you actually are if you think going into schools and holding rugby based fun days & holiday camps doesn't get kids across Liverpool interested in playing & watching RL ? Most of these kids will be from football supporting families who's parents are unlikely to introduce them to RL. I would have thought of all supporters a London fan would understand just how hard it is to get people interested in RL from areas that are dominated by other sports. Lets face it with over 8M people to aim for London's efforts have been pretty dismal over the years. Its not just Liverpool kids either, going back to the 90's and pre-SL era RL barely got a mention in local press like the Liverpool Echo, now thanks to Saints media team there's Saints stories in most weeks during the season. As i've said they'll never turn Liverpool into anything other than a football mad city, but generating interest in Saints & the sport of RL isn't from a lack of effort.

  32. Last season there was talk that the Vià Occitcanie television based group in Toulouse would cease coverage of the games. Maybe a take over being inacted. So it's great news to see they are back still on board. There streaming is of quality I think. FCL-Carcassonne first up week after next will get the competition firing.

  38. How many teams get 3000 never mind 5 ? Trouble is now a days there's much more to do and a lot of people will not go to RL because they know there's very little chance of getting in SL and i include every team in that.

  39. As I see it Coolie it would have been a lot less bother if your 200plus fans relocated to Post Office Road and watched our up and coming stars rather than poaching them

  40. By 'eck tha talks some ###### Coolie. The guy played for Australia school boys in 2012. I'm pretty sure they check documents before you play representative rugby rather than just let you turn up willy nilly. On another note - Ross Peltier isn't a bad signing for you guys. He's always looked strong whenever I've seen him play. Stands up well in the tackle and can be a bit of a handful near the line.

  44. When it comes to GB, I'd be tempted to bring it back just so we can play matches in places like Wales and give them a strong national team to support. I don't think Wales, Ireland and Scotland being used as stepping stones (which they are now) to England (or for English players who aren't good enough) is going to sell the sport.

  45. Great news all round, if the Australians and NZ`ers aren't interested in a viable international programme then we need to create one without them and include as many nations as possible.

  46. Guilt BBC - excellent Scottish series set in Leith. All 4 episodes of the first series and all of the current second 4-part series showing also on IPlayer. They are well written by Neil Forsyth, well paced and acted. A repeat viewing of the first series may be needed as the two are 2yrs apart because of Covid and the latest has some character changes. For the 2nd series, I experimented with subtitles (!) as I didn’t wish to miss any of the superb writing. In doing so, this provided a bonus brief pop-up caption of the titles/artists featured on the excellent soundtrack, all without spoiling the film. Enjoy.
