  1. That's odd. I could have sworn that I had seen a couple of Championship clubs on Sky too, or don't they count?
  2. Well the original publications needed subscribers to kick them off, but you may be right, there might be a viable market today. One for Scratching Shed to look into I would have thought.
  3. I'll leave my judgement until we actually see the structure of the leagues. However, the gates for the NRC have generally been quite poor so it will definitely be a loss-making exercise for these teams. I hope that they know that. (Also, on a more pessimistic note, this still assumes that the 20 English clubs will still be in existence next year. I am not entirely confident that this will be the case.)
  4. Well done. It's a hard slog supporting a losing side in the lower leagues and I guess many on here have never experienced it. No matter how poor the victory (ref. Hornetto) those loyal fans will be as happy as larry today.
  5. For next month how about a free vuvuzela with each copy? The kids would like that I reckon.
  6. Plenty of public money knocking about in France to build sports stadiums is there? About as much as there is here I reckon.
  7. Please explain sensibly why foul language is required to create an atmosphere? Freedom of speech is not the same as freedom to say anything you like. I trust that you understand the difference.
  8. Do keep up! Railtrack went bust years ago and were replaced by Network Rail, hence the confusion with Northern Rail. Northern Rail will actually have very little influence on maintenance scheduling which is largely a safety issues, for which Network Rail have sole responsibility. This is not the first time this has happened by a long chalk. Anyone who regularly travels by train will tell you that Sundays are a favourite for all sorts of maintenance work on the railways (and motorways for that matter).
  9. The way it actually used to be previously was that as soon as another player from the attacking side joined the tackle the ref would call held. for some reason that was withdrawn and now, at times, we have something approaching a maul, which I personally don't like.
  10. Come on - what do you expect them to do when Leeds Utd's season has ended? Read books, talk to women, hold intelligent conversations?
  11. Both editions are on sale separately on EBay at present. (Not mine - wouldn't sell 'em!)
  12. They perform to instructions from those who might chastise them, so your wish will go unanswered. Neither the referees nor the controller change the rules, they wren't empowered to do that; the controller does amend interpretations through the course of the season however, and the referees implement that as instructed.
  13. ....also, Bramley played at the Barley Mow and McLaren Field, which weren't one and the same despite what some may believe. Hunslet played at Mount Pleasant for a season, as did Dewsbury for at least two seasons.
  14. You obviously haven't read the book! How about Broughton Rangers, St Helens Recs, Liversedge, Heckmondwike, Streatham & Mitcham, Pontefract, Morecambe, Stockport, Leeds Parish Church etc?
  15. Just like the rest of SL I guess. Let's just see who Saints, Huddersfield etc appoint for next season, although I'm not holding my breath in eager anticipation. Quick fixes all round.
  16. Get hold of a copy of "The Grounds of Rugby League" by Trevor Delaney (ISBN 0-9509982-1-4; 1991) which will provide all of the missing gaps up to and including 1990. All the rest should be easy after that date.
  17. I beg to differ slightly Errol, as The People's Game does contain a few errors. Better to try The Roots of Rugby League by Trevor Delaney. Geoffrey Moorhouse's greatest contribution was "At The George" which encapsulates much that you would recognise from WPCTS. Just one more to recommend highly is "Willie" by Mike gardiner which is a biography of the great Willie Horne but also captures wonderfully the sense of community that made the game what it was. Unfortunately this book can be difficult to track down with EBay offering the best chance. HTH
  18. If it's only a SMALL section then the club stewards should be able to deal with it there and then. The fact that they haven't is an indictment of the club hence the fine.
  19. Agreed MF, so let's all take personal vows to abstain from blaming the refs for our teams' misfortunes and maybe accept that they simply got beaten by a better team. I'm sure that many of us could enjoy the game more if we just watched our teams instead of the refs. {btw the Batley winger didn't go into touch, he dropped the ball.}
  20. What does it cost to get into the DVS this season? This may be our last chance to enjoy the cavernous delights on offer there but I'm afraid you shouldn'tt expect a big turnout on Friday - quite a few of us will be staying in washing our hair.
