  1. I and millions more in the UK enjoy our P&R system.. Pure speculation on your part. Some sports may have "win game , draw game, lose game" points- based league table position- based relegation/promotion systems but for the sake of transparency, why not publish the evidence? Seriously, do you think Burnley fans are enjoying P and R? Fans of Leicester, Leeds, etc ditto? Latter might be keen to see promotion but next season will fear demotion. Yo-yo is alive and well. Incentivising a teams performance by issuing bullying threats such as" if you get relegated we'll cut your pay, your status, your value in the marketplace and we'll probably cancel your contract" is so "old school"
  2. they might miss a game or two because it's a dead rubber but isn't that true also of middle of the table clubs in a promo/relegation league? Why go to a dead -rubber game if one side can't get into the playoffs and the other is just above the relegation position?t It's worth analysing why a team might be successful on the field. What are the conditions and factors that lead to the on-field success of a team. Once those are determined, then you have in effect a recipe to follow to get on field success
  3. There's a good reason they won't break away, though. They'd not survive. It's their choice, though.
  4. Clearly, I don't agree with the content and opinion of the opening post and poster. On-field performance is DIRECTLY related to the grading criteria that the professional game has voted for.
  5. Hull FCs situation is absolutely nothing to do with lack of promotion or relegation, IMG, A or B or whatever. If Hull FC continue in this vein, the number of paying spectators will fall, season ticket numbers will fall adversely affecting income and cash flow now and next season. Players will want to leave, and the club will not be able to attract new ones. The manager will quit/ be fired and the club will find it hard to attract a good one. Players who remain but don't try will find it hard to get contracts with other SL clubs. The club then will have to move to a smaller more affordable stadium. the owner will want to cut his losses and will seek a buyer. The whole thing will spiral down to oblivion. That's not going to happen though. The players have too much self respect and aware of what awaits them and the club if they don't give of their best each and every game from now on. it may be that in the Western Spiral Arm of the Galaxy, a certain style of ownership strikes fear into an under-performing and under-achieving team, but that macho approach died out when the mill-owners sold up and moved to Florida. For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the message was lost. For want of a message the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
  6. Well done both teams. I despise the very ground that Saints walk on. Always have and always will. I despise the way they harangue the ref, how they make constant appeals to him, but without doubt they are a very very good team with some great players, particularly Welsby. Somehow Cats managed to keep him quiet, though, and that was the difference. Had Saints won, I'd have had no argument, though.
  7. Yes, I agree. But Saints have got a bit raggy and anxious. Cracking game, though. And it's not over yet. Watching on BBC 3 .Paul Rowley commentating?
  8. In fact, you may be right. You don't know the profession of the various posters.
  9. Saints off season training on a Pacific desert island....the land of the waving palms.
  10. So the ref was mistaken, only 5 feet away, whilst we here 1000 miles away could see it was no try. What sort of magic is this?
  11. Sterile argument, now, anyway. The ref awarded it, it's on the scoreboard. Just hope that Cats forget it and get in with the game.
  12. I think you might be misunderstanding the meaning of the word "television", the zoom capability of video camera lenses, the use of multiple camera etc. the ref has only two eyes, and they are both quite close together.
  13. Manly / Penrith the first NRL game I've been able to watch this season. Sea Eagles certainly were on fire . Cherry Evans couldn't put a foot -or a hand- wrong. Stil like Captains Challenge and less screaming at the ref than in SL
  14. "I think the bunker will chalk this off." But they didn't!
  15. You'll grow out of it when you get older.. I wanted Salford to win, but Cas deserved it, needed it and earned it.
  16. I wasn't meaning to turn this into a thread about soccer salaries, rather just pointing out the contrast. In Super League, earning careers are relatively short and once playing days are over, career opportunities in the game are few.
  17. Well done Cas, hard lines Salford. Competitive game with uncertain outcome up to the last few minutes. Pleased I chose to watch it over the other games.
  18. Off topic but mildly relevant: https://www.spotrac.com/epl/payroll/
  19. You're all watching the wrong game. Watch Cas v Salford instead!
  20. For reference, Declan Rice - Arsenal- is on about £12.5 million a year.
  21. Is this the first time all season that Cas have led? Won't last, I feel sure, but it does show that they can hit the front and should overcome lesser teams at some point. Lafai is impressive for Salford, especially running laterally left to right, but I'm not sure the no. 5 outside him is getting many passes from him.
