  1. Sport was about entertainment, now it's a results business. However, how can it be a business? IMO every business can be successful but not every team, and it's the refs job to differentiate through rules and laws. Last night Marcus Rashford caused an Indian burn to someone's ankle and it's set fire to the internet. Ridiculous.
  2. They used to say that the man in the middle has a good game when he's invisible. Not today I'm afraid. He/she has to satisfy the rampant blame shift of coaches, clubs, fans, video refs, VAR's, TMO's etc and the scrutiny of TV pundits and the media in all sorts of sports. This last week we have heard about death threats towards Wayne Barnes in RU, RL refs getting it in the neck allowing the ruck to be slow in the recent tests giving England an unfair advantage, cricketers getting sent off due to having a dodgy helmet without facing a ball and Mikel Arteta and his club wanting the moon on a stick because one of their defenders fell over and let another player use his leg to score a point, even though a recent, "leave refs alone", charter has been signed by all Premier League clubs. Have we reached the bottom yet? And what other examples of foul play/ bungling/biased refereeing exists in world sport? Or can the principles of honour and fair play, overcome the rabid gamesmanship and exhibitionism that transcends all sport? What examples of Paulo Di Canio levels of sportsmanship still exist?
  3. The fact is, the attention span of a young person seeking a distraction is not great. They won't last 80 minutes but you might get 8. Hence why a lot of things demanding they're attention now are exhibitions rather than competitions. There to raise revenue, not provide rewards for effort/ achievement. I have 3 kids of my own. They all tried RL and did well but gave it up and don't watch it now unless it's a try fest. So if you want to stay relevant with them, you have to change the sport fundamentally. PS No need for stereo typing of me either, I don't read the paper and I am not old.
  4. Old man yells at people trying to platt fog
  5. A bunch of iPhone warriors who think coffee is the caffeine equivalent of craft beer? They're priorities are all consuming and self centred while living at home with mum and dad. That's why hey have money. Are you watching big brother ATM?
  6. All we need to know about Gen Z engaging in sport is how many reels and tiktok videos they watch, for free, in their darkened bedrooms.
  7. No they didn't and no they won't.
  8. It does make the lower leagues relevant to SL. However dual reg and the loan system needs consideration too.
  9. The best solution I have heard is use league 1 for development, expansion and rebuilding by putting SL reserve grade teams in there for a meaningful comp. One up, one down, reserve grade can't be promoted . Also when SL expands, the championship promotes a team from L1 and we expand into another territory. This way SL has a vested interest in league 1.
  10. It's a thoughtless act but whoever did it didn't steal the wall next to it to build a stately home......
  11. By all means get worked up over an iconic view/tree. I'm just trying to offer some perspective. There's plenty of examples where trees are cut down "just because" including the world's rainforest. This is vandalism on an industrial scale just because palm oil keeps your cakes from going mouldy too soon.
  12. I think you are hallucinating. The fact is, the title of the thread is Mindless Vandalism. Therefore my point is both relevant and ironic.
  13. Meanwhile in Brazil the rain forest is reducing by 10,000 km2 every year.
  14. the sooner London get a franchise the better. then they can set up the southern conference as a feeder league. A rep side could even possibly play in the championship down the track.
  15. It was mentioned on last week's 40 20 podcast. Nothing serious, just in passing. I can't even remember the context.
  16. Lachlan Coote and many others are just as interesting.
  17. Maybe it would be better to allow Trinity to score tries regardless of the rules? Save all this wailing and gnashing of teeth. Reminds me of Stevo's description of the French approach in the 1973 world cup against GB, in one case they didn't even feed the scrum, they just passed it to a 3/4. GB still won BTW.
  18. SKY get what they pay for. In the past they've paid more as the product had some optimism about it. Sadly the SL clubs have shown little foresight beyond their own interests, setting up their own comp and governing body which proved to be the most insular decision possible. SL lost more than it gained so here we are. The RFL/IMG now have a platform to encourage optimism and growth but against a backdrop of economic decline, this will be hard.
  19. Refs call the 10 all the time and no-one bats an eye lid if a player within the 10 encroaches towards the catching defender and a penalty is given. Whatever happens next is irrelevant unless it is to the advantage of the defender.
  20. The Cas pack dominated the game which is why they won. Wakefield didn't get out of their own half without a penalty piggy back. The Bopper huffed and puffed and looked unfit. All the calls were spot on. Yes one was technically correct but I think the laws should be changed to avoid a repeat. Maybe Wakey's luck has finally run out - they've had plenty of it in the past.
  21. Josh Charnley's performance keeping Makinson out was a stand out and deserved winners performance. Noone in a Saints shirt bettered him. Neither did Leigh go a man down. It's not just the kicks
  22. Camera zooms in on 3 young blondes. One on the left looks straight into the camera and drops the f-bomb. Classy.
  23. Congratulations to Leigh. Shame about the blonde getting her moment on TV. No need for it.
  24. Funny how some folks see things as black and white, particularly when they are going grey.
  25. I don't but you know that. Maybe 6s would be better or a man with a flag? What else don't we need in a car that you might enjoy? I've got a Navara for that. It won't fit 5 sheep though, best to use a trailer and the EV could easily pull that. I think that van you're going to buy won't last very long. I work with plenty of tradies who have tried it though. Van off the road = £0 pay.
