Wakefield Trinity plans submision
OMEGA replied to Forever Trinity's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
They do, whether they consider it so or not! I know many many people from Sharlston, old and young, lifetime friends and close ones at that. They are from Sharlston first and always and proud of it but they also know that Sharlston is in Wakefield -

So a you’re saying there is no weighting in peoples thinking for whether someone is young and naive as opposed to someone like Bentley for example or maybe aRyan Bailey type. -

He’s a young man on a short trial, anyone who knows anything about the game can see the “tackle” was unfortunate but not premeditated or malicious. It could be argued that Myler was as much to blame for the position he ended up in. 7 games and £1,000 is a huge overreaction -

I think it’s worth appealing, he’s young, new to SL, it was his 1st game, in a new country, keen to impress, he was in possession, Myler jumped up and wrapped his arms around his neck, the tipping point was purely unfortunate and not a result of poor technique, no malice or intent. May get it reduced to 5 games and a smaller fine -

Wakefield take over latest

The sponsorship is almost certainly a precursor to a full take over and the new owners, knowing that major team changes are needed NOW, are making funding available via the sponsorship. Much will depend on just how badly the new owners want to avoid the drop but if they’re desperate to do so then all may not be lost for Wakefield Trinity. If a new coach is followed by a handful of real quality signings in key positions then we may see a few victories for Trinity, maybe enough of them to catch Castleford who are just 3 wins in front of Wakefield. Interesting times for Wakefield Trinity, New owners, new coach, new players & stadium upgrades in the offing -
On a more serious note, the decline in amateur teams, clubs and participation at all age levels in Yorkshire is alarming. it’s been declining for a couple of decades and is reaching or has reached critical lows. A good barometer is Castleford a Town where RL has been a religion but whose age group amateur clubs are regularly finding that they don’t have enough players to run a team at one age or another. That dearth of new players over 15 to 20 years is now showing up at Pro level with less players transitioning from Amateur to Pro. Another issue is the narrowing of the player pyramid base which means a smaller number of high quality players reaching the apex. That in time means the quality of the competition falls pro rata. Add in the falling levels of finance to keep young players in the Youth Systems, with Academy lads being asked to sign contracts worth as little as £7k a year So from an initially jovial thread we’ve actually uncovered a very serious threat to the game.
