  1. Bradford vs York the pick of the games there IMO. Will be close one.
  2. York definitely the better side and deserved the win. Stronger in the forwards. Bulls had the edge in the penalties but didn't take their chances. Thought that it was hilarious that both sets of supporters were having a go at the ref who I thought had a decent game.
  3. Winding up petition, not an order but it's entering the end game now I feel.
  4. That's sad news about Ashton as he has pace, height, a good step and is solid defensively.
  5. 1600 based on latest census.
  6. It's available in my local.
  7. Relax. We're just having a discussion. I accept that if Wright was fit then I'd have put him in for the third test instead of Clarke. Davies was injured in the first test and unavailable for the other two. He mentions this in his book that if he'd been for for the third he could've made a difference. You must have missed where I said I didn't think Ellis was good enough. In your opinion he was. You're entitled to your opinion. Harris and Martyn weren't ready in my opinion. Regardless of Wales picking Harris. It's just a difference of opinion.
  8. Ellis had never played a test before for GB. He was decent in the midweek side on the 92 tour but wasn't test quality IMO. Bit too slow. Harris was only 19. Martin was just beginning his first season at Saints. If Wright was fit he was still only 19. It's a heck of a step up to play the Kanngaroos. Hanley knew more about it than either of us so I guess he didn't think the kids were ready. There was certainly no seasoned stand off of test match quality that was left out of the squad.
  9. Well Hanley only went with Clarke for the 3rd test IIRC. He played Powell there for the first two. The second test we got thrashed for lots of reasons. Schofield came on as sub and didn't make a difference. Not sure who the other candidates for No6 were you are thinking of in 94? 3rd test was closer but the real miss for us was Davies who was outstanding in 1st test and we had nobody with his quality to come in.
  10. That's because we didn't have a proper stand off available when Hanley was coach Schofield was at the end of his career and Nigel Wright was injured. Losing him to injury was a real blow. I do agree about Waite and Goodway's selections. Harris should've been first choice in the 98 series.
  11. 10 clubs isn't enough at all. Familiarity breeds contempt. Do they cut it to 8 later if this plan doesn't work? Cutting more clubs adrift into the championship could alienate more supporters from the game. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
  12. IIRC we pretty much sold out tests in 82 and 86 despite them being very one sided. I'm just happy to be there to see the best players the game has to offer in the flesh as it was back in the 80s.
  13. Great to get confirmation of the dates and venues. I'll be at all three tests. Although this is just anecdotal and based on friends and family this has stirred interest amongst a lot of people who wouldn't otherwise be interested. I think crowds will be be above expectations.
  14. Built that great Widnes team of the 80s and early 90s. Possibly the best off the cuff team I've ever seen.
  15. Depends on how up for it Salford are. Bradford were awful last week and picked up injuries. Salford, even with only 15 have enough quality to win this.
  16. Well according to my dream last night we're going to win the first two ashes tests this autumn. You heard it here first.
  17. It's only a very small albeit vocal bunch of simpletons.
  18. I'd advise against taking Mick Gledhill's commentary seriously. It's certainly not worth a post as long as that Phantom. From what I saw of the game the only gripe Bradford could have is how lopsided the penalties for offside were. I don't think Batley were always inside the 10 yet the ref didn't seem to blow for that offence in the whole 80 when Bradford had possession. The ruckus at the end was a bit of a throwback. Manning certainly seemed to lose it. Don't think anyone else threw punches. Will be interesting to see what sanctions are given out. We're early in the season so with the new points accrual system Manning could be walking on eggshells for the rest of the year.
  19. Not sure of the rationale for choosing Headingley. Would be interesting to see what grounds get the 2md and 3rd tests assuming Wembley gets the first. Are we assuming Headingley gets the 3rd test as we'll be 0-2 down by then and find it harder to sell out a bigger ground?
  20. What a mess. Very reminiscent of the Bulls fiasco. Don't new owners have to meet certain tests e.g. money in the bank before they're allowed to take over?
  21. Any club could make the step up with with enough money behind it. That's the be all and end all. Take Huddersfield, they wouldn't be anywhere near SL without Ken Davy. Without money Salford are nowhere. Not long ago Hull KR were just like Bradford now. Same with Hull FC.
  22. Poor from Leeds to let those late tries in. Took the gloss off and shows them to have a lack of professionalism. Still plenty of work to do there.
