Just to confirm so far we have Bedford and Goole as those who've shown an interest? Whoever does come on board in League One will be made welcome.

Sun 2nd June: The Betfred League One Match Thread

We knew it would be a tough season given where we've started from. For what it's worth everyone is behind Chris and the squad but they will be disappointed with the score yesterday. -

Really intriguing match for us at Cornwall this afternoon. We're going to have to keep our discipline as Cornwall seem to like to get at teams at home and there always seems to be a card or two. If we can back up last week's performance it'd be massive for us to get a win. -
If a league team would be of interest. Not everyone likes either league or union some of us liked both. This weekend I was at Tottenham Stadium watching Gloucester v The Sharks on Friday night. Sunday afternoon was spent watching Newcastle Thunder v Rochdale at Gateshead.
-
In Union I support Gloucester and have just put the question out on a fans forum to gauge opinion. For me the positives are we have an artificial pitch so can make more use of it but travel wise especially cost would be an issue.

Goole great for the M62! Let's see who else puts their hat in the ring.

A really battling performance from Thunder in difficult conditions at the GIS this afternoon. Can't fault the effort or commitment, frustratingly we had chances and made errors at key times. Rochdale definitely knew they'd been in a game. -
Newcastle Thunder back to Gateshead
Phil W replied to Bearman's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
I attended the meeting the other week so just wanted to give a summary of what we were told. There's no axe to grind with anyone at Falcons, that has been made very clear since the news was announced at the end of last season. Personally was very sceptical about any potential move back to Gateshead and there's no perfect scenario for us at the moment. But what I do know is guys like Keith Christie, Jordan Robinson and Chris Thorman care massively about the club and rugby league in the north east. They're good people who are most certainly not in it for the money! At Gateshead we have an opportunity to make more money commercially and from sales of food and drink. Straight away that makes sense. Chris Thorman has spoken about the difficulty of trying to find places to train. We haven't had a permanent training base which has meant training as far afield as Sunderland and Durham with no one really knowing till the last minute. Everyone wants Tuesday and Thursday night training slots and Chris himself has been trying to organise things. So from a playing staff point of view we have somewhere to train it gives stability and again makes sense. We will have an office at the stadium. Chris has somewhere to speak to players that doesn't mean sitting in a car or stood in the street! Am I massively keen on going to a stadium with a track around it, well no. But do I want rugby league to succeed in the north east, sure as hell I do. There are compromises and these were discussed. Personally I think a rebrand to North East Thunder wouldn't be a bad thing but as has been said that's an off season discussion. I live near Kingston Park and would have liked to had stayed but financially and from a fan experience it wasn't working. As I've said previously on Thunder, if you are in the area come and support us. There's no money man, we rely on income we can generate and any help is appreciated!- 18 replies

The club have just announced a fans meeting on Wednesday night at 19:30 at Gateshead Stadium..... I know nothing but a guess is we are relocating. If that is the case then maybe we should go down the North East Thunder route? Anyone heard anything?

We know it's going to be a tough season for us at Thunder. In previous games we've been in the fight first half then tailed off second. It's a reversal this week! -

Oldham, Crusaders and Workington this week. Although Rochdale might fancy a scalp at Workington. From a Thunder perspective we played well first half last week I just want to see us in the fight for longer each week. -
Fenton Rogers suspended by the Giants
Phil W replied to daz39's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
So he's been sentenced to a loan spell at Odsal then. -
Completely get that but we have to start somewhere. A European Championships Nations League would give promotion and relegation and guarantee matches. Yes England would dominate for a while but it's frustrating to see the can being kicked down the road. Netherlands, Serbia, Greece and Malta to name some are doing more at the moment. If that's our foundation, let's be patient and build it!
-
My frustration is we're waiting on others but this goes from year to year and the wait continues. If what we have to do as England Is starting somewhere with a European Championships and build it then so be it. But waiting and waiting can't go on.

If we hadn't have gone again this year I don't think we would've gone next year to be honest. We have to keep backing the team, we knew it would be difficult and it is. -
I know I live on another planet at times in the world of what's feasible. But it would be great to have a Championship and League One broadcast deal. It would give Midlands a chance to showcase their new stadium to a base, us at Thunder a chance to try and grab an untapped audience and with Sean Long at Oldham a real look at their resurgence. That's just three teams, there'll be more stories out there. At the very least us League One clubs should be allowed to offer a streaming service. I'd also like to see some Championship on terrestrial, I've enjoyed watching it over the last couple of seasons since Covid despite Thunders woes. It's a good league to watch and I would watch it on the red button on BBC or wherever. I guess I'm a bit frustrated that as we come into a new IMG era as a game we're not grasping at chances to generate new audiences and streaming is definitely one of those ways.

Given the League One season is now underway and appreciate there's been server issues on the site @John Drake could we be moved to the League One section?
-
One point for me on this and I'm not condoning contact with an official. But when Alex Foster was at Thunder he got an eight match ban for making contact with an official. In real time it didn't look that bad. So eight games for this seems lenient in comparison.

Newcastle Thunder v Wakefield Trinity
Phil W replied to Old Frightful's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Well done to Wakefield, they've turned up and done their job in a professional way, as a Thunder fan I wouldn't expect any different. I know most will be aware, our start off the back of two weeks pre-season has been York, Sheffield and Wakefield it doesn't get much tougher. We are starting from scratch trying to be sustainable. As a club we have to stick together. What I would like is if people can make Thunder their second team as it will be tough but we do feel the goodwill of the rugby league family. Challenge Cup: Third Round Draw
Phil W replied to Futtocks's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Reckon the Wakefield squad need three weeks off to make sure they're ok for the season proper. Just remember our pitch at Thunder is artificial so probably best resting players for that one!
