RIGGY
The pitch at Sedgley Park had been fully covered by 5-30 tonight (Sunday) and the terraces are clear of snow as we had a thaw this afternoon too. Its looking ok for your game against Oldham tomorrow but i suggest you keep an eye on the Oldham website or forum. Will be coming to watch tomorrow if it goes ahead. Safe journey everyone Riggy Swinton Lions

E.S.O
Just got back, exceptionally quick write up cos I'm knackered To be honest I thought we were poor tonight, really poor. How the defence can go from as solid as it was against Halifax to as bad as it was tonight is baffling. Yes we had a largely second string side out, but we still didn't perform to our potential, particularly in defence. The two Irish lads especially were found wanting in defence, and 3 of their 4 tries came down our right hand side. Honourable mentions to Ashley Thackeray and Alex Rowe, the only two to come out with any real credit in my opinion, maybe along with Sam Barlow, especially Ash, even if Jonny is fit for the next game Ash deserves to keep his place at full back. Menzie and Richie Barnett never really got into the game.

They had Match Time and a lot of our Key Players were rested......A great Outcome...... Eagleraider
Here here. It is following Mark's policy with the large squad. Menzie has just arrive, so has Barnett and all players need to get competition time. Eagles WON. That is the result we wanted. Played 4... Won 3 and drawn 1 is not a bad start .... or is it? Compare it to previous seasons. Well done lads. Should have a good strong squad for Halifax. Basil Exposition
I agree with ESO on the whole, not the best performance by any stretch but it's in the win column and thats the big thing. We were our own worst enemies by trying to be too clever with the ball in hand. I hope no one shows Tubby the stats as he'll probably have a coronary. Credit to Oldham who never took a backward step and fully expoited our errors. Now if you will excuse me peeps, before bed im going to get my old science book out and check just where on the anatomy the shoulder really is....,, 2010 - Where it all begins again...... How many knock ons? How many missed tackles? Oldham deserved a draw imo, but we're not complaining. The feeling has just returned to my feet. Oh, and Hicks was a joke again, equally incompetent for both sides.

Lets just say some of the natives opinions on what is not a high tackle was certainly, ermmm, interesting. Despite that us good houmoured eagles fans had some interesting craic with the natives. The comment of "How can you afford these players? You havent even got your own ground!" from an Oldham fan was probably the winner. Credit must go to all the hardy eagles travellers who went for turning up in tempratures similar to those experienced by Michael Palin at the end of Pole to Pole. Cold Shoulder, me? Nahhhhh. Cold everything else, Yes. 2010 - Where it all begins again......

Cold everything else, Yes. Especially those who managed to bag themselves a prawn sandwich ticket, eh Basil? The majority of the Oldham fans were good humoured and had a laugh, but there were some muppets. The fella who came out with, "You haven't even got your own ground" even his own fans couldn't believe the irony! And his missus (I assume) was the one who hadn't quite grasped the human anatomy yet, and thought your shoulder rested on your eyebrows.
martyb62
After recovering from double pneumonia, being at the game last night with an already horrendous cold, I thought, ultimately, that the game actually benefitted from Tubby's tactics of fielding an "experimental" side. We could've put out a full strength side and won 60-0 or summat stupid, but I enjoyed the competitiveness of last night's game. Although I have to say, I wasn't feeling like that at 8-12 last night!!!!!!!!!! I thought Oldham's halfbacks and hooker were excellent and ran us ragged in the eary stages and, Oldham's intensity visibly slowed when the no6 went off injured. Menzie and Richie Barnett were quiet, but neither had played for a while, and I'm still not convinced by Dane McDonald at halfback. The good thing for me was that they were pretty much a scratch side, and were put under a lot of pressure, but generally coped, and won the game. That bodes well for the future, I think.
