The Other Night II

Well, a big improvement on the previous couple of matches so well done for that. Good, tough, old fashioned game of Rugby League with some big defence from two fairly well-matched sides. We offered more in attack this week too - interesting how a bit of pace and direction at scrum-half can spice up the whole team performance eh!!

At the time I thought going not going for goal at 8-6 with eight minutes left against twelve men was the right decision ... but with hindsight, perhaps not!! Not entirely sure we deserved to lose, rather like the Halifax away game in fact - four points slipped away there. But although we seem to invariably get our noses in front we never seem to get far enough ahead to be able to close the game out. And we must concentrate when we come out of the dressing rooms after half-time!

Still in eighth today I see, the other results once again showing how difficult it is for any of the bottom five to beat any of the top seven. Seems inevitable the games between the bottom five will determine the final positions, Which (hopefully) might still work in our favour - though we have a while to wait for our next chance of winning now!

A decent summing up, thought we tackled well and the young lad at scrum half kicked well and took the pressure off Kainy. A big heads up too to Ritchie Barnett who gets some stick but showed just how fast he is when scoring that try, no other Hunslet winger in recent memory could go 85 yards ball in hand and no one anywhere near despite Potts and Saltonstall chasing him.Thought Backhouse is showing improvement as well, nice to see Grimmer there as well, a fully fit Grimmer and wed have beaten Fax twice this season !

Bad decision not to take the two points, it cost us the game. And not for the first time this season we have gone for the

four points and failed. You could just see us loosing not taking the two and we did.

Ritchie Barnett had his best game all season scoring a great try, and about time too. He has

dropped a lot of high balls this year , which have been costly.

The young Jordan Lilley was outstanding yesterday,  could do with him in the team every week if possible

. Some great tackling yesterday thoughout the team.

Finally good to hear that Mr Grimmer will be back when fit.

How did not taking the 2 cost the game? The difference between being 2 up & 4 up is next to nothing when they have a kicker who strikes well in the 70%, if not even 80% range, and for all anyone knows we could have dropped the ball from the kick off and they score straight away anyway.

It's all ifs & butts!

The real reason we lost is because of one missed tackle/poor read in defence, which the top teams punish you for.

if we take the two points it would have put pressure on Halifax for once , and remember there was not a lot of time left in the game. That's when team's start to make mistakes.

Yes we could have dropped the ball from the Halifax kick off , but we will never know , it just would have put us in charge of finishing the game off. Anyway Barry Eaton told the team to go for 2 ,  and the team ignored it result lost game.
