You'd need a conference structure in both the Super League and the NRL to make this credible.

Not really.

You just need pro teams from different countries to play.

No need to overcomplicate it. Call it the Champions League, the Pro Invitational, whatever works.

And just play it in whatever way is deemed appropriate.

So if it's just to promote the sport , just have internationals , we could have GB ? , OZ ,NZ ,France PNG , Tonga and Canada ?

Except that we already have a World Cup and Test matches.

This is another option, another way to increase sponsorship value etc.

No , it's a way of trying to give some credibility to a Canadian team with no Canadians in it

The Canadian team with Canadians in it is the national team. Toronto are a professional club team.

And to promote your club team beyond the confines of the town or city it is based in is no bad thing.

It’s 2019 you know. 1969 was done a long time ago.

So you admit , the sole purpose of this suggestion is to promote Toronto Wolfpack ?

If enough money is offered then it might well happen

I admit that promoting yourself internationally helps to also promote the code.

If the code is publicised overseas well enough then all clubs can benefit.

The future of the code is more important than its past.

Indeed it is , but as pointed out earlier , if Mr Hetherington had suggested something like this , he would have received huge criticism

Which means what with regards to the value of the concept having been said now?

If people are going to criticise based on imaginary scenarios that didn’t happen, then those people are in a worse place than any of us previously thought.

If anything, it suggests that rugby league fans don’t know how to think.

I hope that's not entirely true...

The concept of the best teams playing each other ? , As pointed out , that's the NRL

Then don't use a comparison to the Champions League

Wrong Gubrats.

The Champions League is an excellent point of comparison, not because of its size or whatever differences you can find between soccer and league.

It's a great example because it shows a code taking full advantage of its profile.
