$2.3 billion seems a large sum of money to throw at something you hate and want to discredit.

Without this broadcast deal where do see the game going ?

You're not an Aussie I assume.

Look at some Nine employees. Peter Fitzsimons is the perfect example. His whole "journalistic" career has been made through absolutely shitting on RL.

Check out his Twitter. It would blow your mind.

We have cases over here where employees of the channel who pay ridiculous money to air the sport are calling RL everything under the sun after breaches in social distancing while the AFL has had many more breaches, including a drink driving accident while we're supposed to be in lock down and it's absolute silence from those same journalists.

Maybe expansion is still on the table within the TV deal.

From how I read it, there is scope for expansion in this deal and if it does occur the broadcast deal figures can be adjusted accordingly.

I’d hold out. They are aware of the present climate but banking on a winner with the future climate.

With economic conditions after this pandemic has been and gone fingers crossed, means the Australian taxpayers will have to repay massive debt over the next X number of years.Television viewing in Oz, has lost it's impact , and is losing viewers  to other viewing platforms and social media.Advertising figures have also taken a massive hit, which further impacts Tv revenues.

To secure what is taking the remaining 3 years of the current Tv deal  into account, and a  4 year extension, meaning as stated $305m pa TV deal under current and even future circumstances is almost a no brainer. We have a couple of other football codes including ru, that are struggling to secure a snippet of TV interest.

Rugby league will have secured 7 years of some comforting degree of financial security,  in which to plan for development and expansion.Including of course Foxtel Tv deal.

Not much point in holding out for more, the other fTA TV stations are either in huge debt ch7  $500m or running on a shoestring ch10 owned by CBS.The days of decent commercial competitive tension between Tv stations are long over. They are fighting for survival.

You know things are grim in the media world, when the likes of Rupert Murdoch foregoes his usual bonus ,so as to assist the company profitability.

Rugby league :If it was art, it would be a Monet.

That strategy has really helped Rugby Australia.

Foxtel offered a deal, Rugby denied it and decided to hold out, now they have nothing.

  Smart move by the Nrl.

Likewise the UK Super League deal over the past however many years has proven invaluable despite people criticising it as far too long to be tied in for at the time it was signed. Certainty, now more than ever, is immensely important.
