Racist Comment or no racist comment?

Tyrone Peachey’s allegations that he was racially abused by Newcastle forward Mitch Barnett will be finalised in a meeting between the pair after the NRL’s investigation failed to determine appropriate evidence.

The decision leaves Barnett free to take his place in the first week of the finals.

Following the incident during Friday’s Knights versus Titans clash on the Gold Coast, the NRL Integrity Unit interviewed or received statements from the players involved in the matter.

They also spoke to players from both teams in the vicinity of the incident, match officials, club officials, and reviewed footage and audio from the broadcast and internal comms records.

But the NRL’s investigation, conducted under the Game’s Anti-Vilification Code, couldn’t determine the matter and the facts remain contested by each player.

This is one of those ‘ you said that ...no I didn’t ‘ , and that’s where it will remain without evidence . I feel sorry for Barnett if he’s been misconstrued as that allegation sticks , but i feel sorry for Peachey if he’s right and didn’t get proper justice . Not a great episode in the season either way

Have you seen the footage, I just caught it on the news again 20 minutes ago,  Peachy`s  reaction isn`t the reaction of someone who is imagining things, there was something said in that tackle. The c-word is a hard word to mistake for something else. Especially "black c----". I can`t believe Barnett didn`t get something.

Barnett is from the Manning Valley where I live and believe me sometimes the things that I hear people say about the Aborigines round here shocks me and coming from people who are old enough to know better pisses me off.  I would go as far to say that young Barnett has grown up in a town that provides a lot of poor role models with regards to race relations.

I’m not arguing anything ,  but it is circumstantial and hearsay without collaborating evidence . Everything else you say is interesting but legally or judicially doesn’t prove a case

I wasn`t accusing you of anything  David, it`s the problem with this posting business you can`t tell the tone in which they are made. But I do have to admit that even though I have seen the episode several times, seeing it again about 1/2 hour ago I did think that wasn`t the reaction of someone imagining things. Any way as you said not a great episode, let`s hope the message is getting through.

I heard racist abuse directed at opposition players from the terraces in the mid 1970s in the UK this despite having some black players in the home team. This is the 2020s now, about 50 years on. I believe the vast majority of people have a better understanding today with a more multiracial society. I don’t claim to know the situation in Oz. When racism does rear it’s head it needs challenging. I couldn’t understand why Tyrone didn’t initially want to pursue it when the ref asked him. Maybe as a player his instinct took over with a shrug and play on attitude. It was right to follow it up though. Okay it couldn’t be corroborated, even so it did flag the issue up and serve as a reminder to everyone in the game. It should not be tolerated.

Good point , this is a tad frustrating when players do this .Tamou did the same . They allege something then backtrack and say they don’t want to make an issue .
