Jarryd Hayne - His record

Recommended Posts

Should the NRL react to Jarryd Hayne's guilty verdicts and prison sentence in regards to his playing record of achievement?

Will Hayne's awards in RL be rescinded now he's been found guilty of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a woman at her home in Newcastle, New South Wales in 2018?

Will they  be left on file as is or with an asterisk and a comment.

Unlike Storm though for example, where achievements were stripped when they cheated, his misdemeanours were outside the game.

Simply put: good boy (well not always) on-field, bad boy off it.

He was one of the NRL's most high-profile athletes and twice won the player of the year award. He played 11 Tests for Australia, helping them to win the 2013 World Cup.

Hayne also had a brief career playing in the NFL in the US with the San Francisco 49ers, where he also faced sexual assault accusations.

In 2019, he settled a civil case concerning sexual assault allegations from a woman in California in 2015. Hayne strongly denied those allegations and privately settled the matter.

His case in Australia has been closely watched in recent months amid an intensifying national debate about rape and sexual misconduct.

Hayne began his career in 2006 as a winger for the Parramatta Eels, winning the NRL's Dally M Rookie of the Year award. The following year, he made his debut for New South Wales in State of Origin and Australia internationally, and began playing primarily as a fullback. Hayne won the Dally M Medal in 2009 and 2014 as the league's player of the year, and the Rugby League International Federation's International Player of the Year award in 2009. He represented Australia at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, and his father's native Fiji at the 2008 and 2017 tournaments when not selected for Australia.

So should the game do anything or nothing?

What honours are you suggesting should be rescinded @Graham?

I would say any place in the Hall of Fame cannot exist when guilty of this charge, but I don’t see how he can be stripped of playing awards or representative caps when they were all career achievements that were earned fairly.
