Rochdale Hornets is proud to announce the signing of Fenton Rogers, on a season-long loan from Huddersfield Giants.

The highly-rated prop helps to bolster Hornets’ already very strong from row options - which features internationals such as Fuifui Moimoi, Gavin Bennion, and Sean Penkywicz.

Having started his rugby career at Saddleworth Rangers, the 18-year-old signed his first professional contract at Giants last October.

Rogers has also had a loan spell at Oldham, at the end of last season, and represented Lancashire.

His father Wes also played in the front row and made 20 appearances for Hornets, between 2001 and 2002.

Hornets Chairman, Andy Mazey, is delighted have Rogers on board.

He said: “Fenton is a player Matt and I have discussed numerous times and I know Matt really admires. He’s highly rated at Huddersfield so it’s a boost to be able to welcome him to Hornets as we look to keep building on a solid start to the campaign. Big thanks must go to Ian Watson and Andy Kelly for enabling this deal to happen.”

Rogers will be in contention to play his first Hornets game, when we host Midlands Hurricanes this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Ian Watson 10/21: “He’s another one that’s come off the production line, but he offers something different – he’s a big lad with great leg speed and he’s got the thing that you can’t teach: aggression. He needs to learn to manage that and control it but he’s got a great skill set.  He’s got a great future and we’re impressed with how far he’s come over the last year and his application and effort with the first team this season.”  He should be able see Huddersfield's cup semi-final at 5pm.

Good addition towards the business end of the season, and he will get well mentored by the more seasoned forwards at Hornets !
