Where would your priorities lie

For me there has been a big change last season as a big ice hockey fan and season ticket at Leeds knights I was left with a big decision a top of the table clash at Leeds or Fev for the playoff semifinal against London, sadly I chose the latter. Now that we have IMG and games are irrelevant the choice would be simple ice hockey every time.

Just out of curiosity does anyone black out certain dates in their calendar, e.g. GF and CC final, at the start of the season just in case or is it just me? Personally, I only attend finals if my team is in it but I never want to get caught out.

Every year since the year dot. Finally came to fruition last year!

We have plenty of Wrexham FC fans who come to watch North Wales Crusaders. As a Wrexham boy, born and bred, I can only look over the fence with envy at the massive investment and success that Ryan Reynolds and Rob MacElhenny have brought to the Racecourse since their take over of Wrexham FC.

I always look out for their results and I'm happy for them when they win - but go to a game? Not any more, I gave up watching football in the 70's and wont be going back.

I do go along to the occasional Union game, but its mostly just televised games now. I certainly wouldn't miss a League game if there was a clash.

That's interesting given Leeds Knights play in a franchised league with no promotion to the top flight at all. Why is it so different for you might I ask?

I've missed a couple of Giants run of the mill league fixtures to attend my non league teams big games over the last couple of years.

Giants 'run of the mill fixtures' ? You'll have to be more specific 😉

Actually you can be promoted as league champions Leeds can apply to go to Elite league and there were a lot of rumours they were going to go. Big problem for Leeds is the rink only holds just under 2000 people and it would be difficult to generate the income but the option is there and it is the clubs decision.

I watch Leeds Knights myself so I know the situation. There's no direct promotion route and as you say it's on an application only basis. Furthermore we play against what are effectively reserve sides for some of the Elite League teams like Sheffield Steel dogs for example.

Leeds won't get an Elite license playing at Elland Road they'd have to go to the arena I'd have thought.

The option is there to apply, the decision is up to the League to accept them.

Again, the difference between that set up and RL seems a hell of a lot more formal and application based, indeed more so than even licensing was. Compared with IMG where if Fev achieve grade A they'll be in Super League regardless, I don't understand therefore how one is good and the other bad?

Natural pessimism of the Rugby League supporter.

Nothing about the game is good. All other sports are run better. Facts don't matter.

Because they are 2 totally different sports Ice Hockey is based on a franchise system and has been from the start and it works for that sport. It’s my understanding that where Leeds play in the National League was originally set up as a route for aspiring clubs to move to Elite League and is not a league of Elite League reserve teams as you suggest with Sheffield being the only one and that was due the fact that the Steel dogs we’re going out of business and the Steelers bailed them out.

RL however apart from a brief failed attempt at licensing before has always had a system where the league was based on performance on the field and in my opinion should remain that way. It amazes me when I see Toulouse fans on here saying the club aren’t investing in the team because they believe they are going to be promoted anyway.

I know I am old school and have accepted that me RL are slowly going our different ways in fact I only go to Fev games now because my brother goes and it’s just a social thing and soon for me the game will be a distant memory.

So why do you have any affinity with Leeds in Hockey?

They are in a similar position to Featherstone it seems, but one you are more than happy with the system it runs in, and the other one has changed and I guess change = bad

The affinity with Leeds is down to my daughter she was the one who was into Hockey on the TV and we offered to take her and gave her the choice between Leeds and Sheffield she chose Leeds and we all loved it from the start.

I have nothing against change just as long as it is change for the good, this isn’t. I have talked to lots of people who don’t follow rugby most prefer football and I tell them about the changes and they all think it’s insane but you lot keep kidding yourself it’s great because I couldn’t care less after 50 years of being a supporter, player, club secretary and development officer I’m done with the game.

So you are happy watching one sport where the team you follow cannot get promoted, but that is fine because its Ice Hockey, in Rugby League it apparently doesn't work and is insane.

Yea, we have heard others go on and on about how they speak with all these fans of other sports and they all think it is insane, like that is supposed to be evidence. Someone that dislikes the system, explaining that same system to other people, it isn't a surprise that they don't like it, I imagine you aren't exactly selling it as a good thing, as you already said it is insane apparently.

If you are done with the game after 50 years because of this, then you are just the same as all the other RL fans over the years that keep claiming they are turning their backs after various changes, but still end up on these forums complaining years later.
