Re Georgia Roche try v Raiders -

Think it was Tayla Predebon whose round-the-corner offload set it up. Georgia ran a good support line and finished well.

How often do we see a play like that in WSL big-3 games? More to the point, would a young English forward have the confidence to even think of producing a play like that as they go into contact?

NRLW kicks off on Thursday with Knights v Roosters.

Some tentative speculation the crowd could push towards 15k.

The game will be live on Nine's main channel. Unaffected by their Olympics coverage.

Live on Sky Sports Arena.

Knights have posted one of those vids where each player namechecks her junior club. Our WSL clubs should produce content like this for their social media.

Georgia Roche says Drighlington. They should write Drighlington on a board and ask Aussies and Kiwis to pronounce it. Followed up with Keighley.

Isabella Waterman, one of the Knights new "Rugby converts" from NZ, gives Sydenham Swans as her junior club. So contrary to my supposition, she must have played League before. Can be forgiven for thinking otherwise when NRL journos never bother to enquire. All they seem to care about is the "Rugby background".

Sydenham are currently leading the 6-team open-age Canterbury women's comp.

As set out on another thread, I like to see offloads and second-phase. Sadly, only the more experienced forwards seem prepared to consistently take risks. Hoping Chelsea Lenarduzzi has a prolific season. Very similar player to Channy Crowl.

My one to watch among the younger offloading forwards is Christian Pio at the Tigers.

"The Cowboys are coached by Ricky Henry who led New Zealand to the final of the 2022 World Cup"

Gentle reminder for the writer that Ricky Henry also led New Zealand to a 12-6 victory over Australia in game 2 of last year's Pacific Championship.

Can't remember seeing Isabelle Kelly play fullback before. Ample time for the list to change ahead of kick-off.

Intriguingly, de-retired Jillaroos fullback great Sam Bremner is listed in the reserves.

Me either. I thought Jess Sergis filled in there on occasion in the lower tier comps, so surprised they didn't choose her.

Good point. Jess Sergis played fullback for Helensburgh when they were in the NSW Premiership. I saw the livestreamed Tigerfest against Wests. She scored 4 tries and looked likely to cut through on every kick return.

Additional personal intrigue with the coach's daughter replacing Isabelle Kelly at centre.

Wrong topic to discuss this methinks, but checked out the Roosters line-up. Continuing the intrigue, Fressard shifts from wing to 5/8 !! Not heard that position switch before. Also, Bremner in the 19, with suggestion she will be promoted into the 17 tomorrow. Maybe back to fullback?

Don't shoot the messenger.

Turns out the ticket-sale watchers were wildly over-optimistic. Throws into sharper relief the standalone v double-header debate. The latter stages of Broncos/Eels NRLW on Saturday could be played in front of the thick end of 40k. Far more of a buzz for the players, better for TV pictures and promotion.

Also forcefully underlines the value of Origin to women's RL in Oz. Let's hope the fanbase can be similarly galvanized for internationals.

There was a piece on NRL.com last week about Rilee Jorgensen headlined "Life of Rilee: From meeting her idols to playing beside them". Shots of Rilee playing for Titans and Queensland were accompanied by one of her with Steph Hancock at Suncorp during the 2017 WC final.

Also last week, Wigan posted a pic of a young(er) Isabel Rowe with Georgia Wilson, juxtaposed with another of the pair at the 9s finals. These kind of personal journey stories can strike chords beyond the game's traditional reach. Wish the RFL could liaise better with national and local media to generate interest.

Frustrating round to watch, Hollie Dodd was probably the pick of the 3 English girls but what I mean by frustrating is it seems like they are holding back.

Dodd was fairly busy and made one great line break but I don’t think she realises how good she could be.

Goldthorp was pretty quiet, not doing too much long but almost playing within herself.

Roche again nothing really wrong but feel like she is holding back.

Starting to think she won’t ever take a more dominant role.

Really disappointed with Georgia Roche again today, after Southwell went off injured I thought Roche would step up and be the main playmaker but no, just hangs back, doesn’t impose herself and basically goes through the motions.

On the other hand, I see both Hollie-Mae Dodd and Francesca Goldthorp trying as hard as they can and having a real dig.

Both are playing well and have loads of improvement in them so pretty encouraged so far.

Any thoughts, am I being too harsh on Rochey?

I agree pretty much word for word. I thought Goldthorp was a bit hit and miss last year, but I think she is playing really well on the wing. Hopefully she can continue to develop her fullback play at the same time. I'm just a really big fan of Dodd.

Roche, I don't know, I'm wondering if it's just too much of a step up, or at least too early in her career. I wonder if she will hold her place in the starting line when Southwell is back in 2 weeks or so. Missing Johnston in the team will cause big problems I think, they need the other key players to really step up.

Can't add a lot to previous appraisals of Georgia Roche going back years across multiple threads.

Would only repeat the comment, apropos Top 50 English players list, that Jodie Cunningham remains my first choice. Jodie's personality enables her to make the most of her talent. Georgia's personality - not so much.
