They wouldn't be more meaningful though. What you would do is introduce a competition that people care less about than the SL, thus degrading the fixtures. 

You'd also reduce the fixture list for most teams (or increase it for a few) by 2 fixtures to accommodate the semis and final of the new competition. Playing no game is less meaningful than playing a loop game.

I'd love a 3rd comp, but not a watered cup comp against the same teams we already see. It wouldn't be beneficial.
