HALIFAX PANTHERS fullback Will Brough has a great opportunity to advance his Rugby League education while on loan at The Shay from Leigh.
So says his dad Danny, the former Super League and Scotland halfback and 2013 Man of Steel who is a regular observer of the 19-year-old’s performances.
Having come through Wakefield’s development system, Will has played once for Leigh, who signed him in November 2024, only for him to sustain a shoulder injury which needed surgery, and he also had temporary stints with Midlands last year and this season, Salford.
Under contract at Leigh until the end of next season, his loan at Halifax – where he has made six appearances – is scheduled to run for the remainder of this season, with Leopards coach Adrian Lam saying: “We saw the talent in him early on in and we’re pretty excited.
“Whatever his position may be, whether it’s at centre, in the halves or at fullback, I think we’ll work that out in the future.”
Father Danny, 43, whose younger son Henry is in the Leeds Academy, knows about the Championship from his own playing days and said: “Halifax is a great place for Will to learn under a good coach in Kyle Eastmond.
“He is getting games under his belt and playing at a good, competitive standard, and in my opinion, he’s getting more battle-hardened by playing for Halifax than he would do in the reserves at Leigh.”
Halifax face North Wales at Colwyn Bay on Sunday.
