HUNSLET again reflected on their rich Rugby League history when staging a third heritage night at the South Leeds Stadium, their home since late 1995.
Pride of place went to the shirt (white with a chocolate brown chevron) worn by fullback Billy Langton at the 1965 Challenge Cup final at Wembley.
The battling Yorkshire underdogs, player-coached by loose-forward Fred Ward, were beaten 20-16 by Wigan in front of 89,016.
Within eight years, that version of the club, who famously claimed ‘All Four Cups’ in 1907-08, had been wound up.
The current version, up to 1979 prefixed by ‘New’, emerged as a phoenix, and with the old Parkside ground sold, originally played at Leeds Greyhound Stadium.
Between 1982 and 1994, they used Elland Road football ground.
The memory-stirring event, which attracted more than 50 people, was organised by the Hunslet RLFC Heritage Team, with Pat Benatmane a driving force.
Meanwhile Hunslet have made John Barlow their commercial director – and he will be drawing on that heritage.
“We have a proud history, strong identity and a great story to tell,” said the former non-executive director.
