BATLEY BULLDOGS coach James Ford says three into two will go as he reflects on the luxury of having three quality halfbacks in his squad.
In October the new coach brought in Ben Reynolds (above) from his old club Featherstone and added the former Super League player to a reshaped squad which also includes Ben White and Josh Woods.
Leeds Academy product and Germany international White, 31, has been with the Bulldogs since 2020 and played in all Batley’s 28 matches last season.
Former Wigan player Woods, who will be 28 on Saturday (December 13), joined Batley from Newcastle Thunder three years ago and featured 20 times.
Reynolds, 31, appeared in 22 Featherstone matches in 2025, the first two of those before the early-season departure of Ford, who had signed him for a second time.
He initially joined ahead of the 2024 campaign, switching to Hull KR in the February of that season and also playing for Hull FC on loan before returning to Featherstone in the July.
Featherstone’s serious financial issues led to the availability of Reynolds, who previously played for Castleford, Leigh (in two spells) and Wakefield.
And Ford, who has brought in former Lock Lane coach Paul Couch as his assistant, said: “Ben is an experienced and talented player and one I have a good relationship with.
“It’s great to have him on board, and great to have three quality halfbacks in him, Ben and Josh, and I’m looking forward to seeing them bring the best out of each other.
“It will be interesting to see who comes out on top, and there is also the versatility factor, because we have a relatively small squad, and we certainly won’t be wasting any of our resources.
“We need to be getting the most out of all our players, and that’s very much in our thoughts.”
Batley are building towards their annual Boxing Day Heavy Woollen Challenge match, this year at Dewsbury (noon).
