SALFORD coach Mike Grady believes Sunday’s visit of Hunslet will provide a good marker for the progress of his fledgling squad.
Since coming together less than a fortnight before the season began, reformed Salford have suffered league defeats to Oldham (44-0 at home) and Barrow (38-4 away).
In between, they won 42-10 at Hammersmith Hills Hoists in the Challenge Cup, setting up the third-round clash with top-flight Hull FC which was lost 60-0.
Despite a series of injuries hitting an already-thin squad, Grady is confident that progress is being made.
“We’ve not had a pre-season so there’s a lot still to work on, but I’m seeing improvements every week,” he said.
“We had a good win against Hammersmith. The Hull FC game is what it is. I think we did a lot better against Barrow than we did against Oldham. When we play Hunslet that will be a good marker of how far we’ve come.
“I’ve not earmarked anything. There’s no pressure to win this game or that game. Our wins are the improvements each week.
“So if we can improve on what we did against Barrow, I’ll be happy. We’ll work hard in training and we’ll have a really good go at Hunslet.”
