Major blow for Wigan Warriors as Jack Farrimond could miss rest of season

WIGAN WARRIORS have been given a major blow with the news that Jack Farrimond could be out for three months and miss the rest of the season.

Farrimond has been in scintillating form for the Warriors, stepping in amicably for Bevan French when the Australian star has been injured.

But the 20-year-old suffered a serious hamstring tear in Wigan’s 16-14 win over St Helens at Magic Weekend.

“Jack got the injury towards the back end of the game so it’s testament to him that he carried on,” said coach Matt Peet.

“We are all disappointed for him as he’s been excellent this year and gone from strength to strength to become a really important part of the team.

“We will miss him for sure as he is getting better and better. I’ve been made up with his development this year and all the credit goes to him for that.”

French is expected to be out for several more weeks with his latest hamstring injury, leaving Wigan with a gap to fill alongside Harry Smith at halfback when Warrington Wolves visit on Friday.

Adam Keighran has moved from centre to fill in on previous occasions, while 18-year-old George Marsden has made three appearances and another academy player has been drafted into the first team.

“Evan Buckley has played really well for the reserves and academy in recent weeks,” said Peet.

“We’ve put him in training this week and we’ve got George Marsden obviously and we can play Adam Keighran in the halves too.

“There are a few options we can go with and it will be one of those three.”

Peet has also given updates on Nathan Lowe and Junior Nsemba, who both suffered their own hamstring injuries.

“It’s not good for Nathan, we can’t scan him yet because there’s bleeding in there and whatnot,” Peet said. “It doesn’t look good though.

“Junior Nsemba will be out for four weeks.”
