MASON LINO is hoping to earn the respect of Castleford Tigers fans after his move from rivals Wakefield Trinity.
Lino, who joined Trinity ahead of the 2021 season, scored 20 tries, 204 goals and six field-goals in a six-year period that culminated in last month’s Super League Grand Final win.
Having been such a pivotal figure in Wakefield’s rise, the former Samoa international’s move to local rivals Castleford inevitably raised a few eyebrows.
However, the 32-year-old is keen to win over his new club’s supporters as he looks ahead to the 2027 campaign.
“My body feels pretty good and I got through the full season without any injuries,” said Lino, who has penned a two-year deal with the Tigers.
“I need to put some hard work in now and get myself around the boys.
“I’ve seen some familiar faces. I saw Hoody (Liam Hood) again which is always fun but I have got to meet some new people too.
“I’ve had some funny comments from some people (about the move) but hopefully I can earn the respect of the fans and players as well.”
Lino’s move to Castleford will see him play under Paul Rowley for the first time, and he is encouraged by what he has heard about the club’s new head coach.
“I don’t know too much about Paul,” he admitted. “But speaking to some of the boys, he seems like a really good person.
“Watching from the outside looking in, he’s an attack-based coach so I’m looking forward to working with him.”
