DONCASTER will be playing at a newly-named ground from the end of this month.
The Eco-Power Stadium, which last month hosted a Challenge Cup semi-final between Hull KR and Warrington, is set to become Club Doncaster Sports Village from June 30.
Club Doncaster are the umbrella organisation uniting the Rugby League club and the city’s third-tier football club Doncaster Rovers, as well as their respective community arms.
Their stated aim is to improve the lives of local residents through leadership in sport, education and entertainment.
It’s reported that Club Doncaster decided to shun potential stadium sponsors, with chairman Terry Bramall, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, keen to promote the organisation’s profile and work.
It will be the third different name for the 15,200-capacity ground, which first opened in 2007 as the Keepmoat Stadium and has always been shared by the two teams (it took the Eco-Power name in 2022).
Before 2007, the Rugby League club played at Rovers’ old Belle Vue ground, having had their own home Tattersfield between 1953, two years after their formation, and 1995.
Club Doncaster announced: “This isn’t just a rebrand, it’s a statement of intent.
“Led by chairman Terry Bramall, this decision speaks of our ambition to grow beyond matchdays and establish something truly significant for South Yorkshire – a sporting and community destination that serves this region every single week of the year.
“Longer term, we have ambitions to further develop the physical footprint of the site, adding community and sporting facilities which will cement our role as a destination for the region.”
Chief executive Gavin Baldwin added: “We want the Club Doncaster Sports Village to be a place people come back to again and again – for football, for rugby, for world-class events, and for the kind of experiences that stay with you.”
