WAKEFIELD TRINITY coach Daryl Powell has described St Helens’ statement about their bid for Harry Robertson bid as “touchy” and says he doesn’t know why it has created such a stir.
Saints released a statement claiming that they had received no communication or contact from Wakefield about Robertson and had reported the matter to the RFL.
“They’re a bit touchy. I don’t know the reason why,” Powell said.
“We’ve had contact with the agent and the club, so… how do you do it? How do you usually talk to agents? I don’t know. But for me there’s nothing in it. Why are you so touchy?
“Wakefield contacted St Helens via the agent. We asked the agent if he wanted us to contact St Helens and he said no, I’ll do it.
“I don’t understand it, to be honest, I don’t know where it’s come from their side, but it is what it is I suppose… Players move from club to club don’t they?
“You contact clubs in a way to enable that to happen. It doesn’t just happen, does it? So I don’t understand why they’re so touchy. For me, I don’t think we’ve done anything wrong. I don’t know why it’s such a stir.
“They’ve turned it down and that’s fine. We either go back with an improved offer or it stays as it is. I don’t think it’s a big issue.”
