CHRIS CHESTER is adamant that Danny Brough has not joined the Castleford Tigers coaching staff after the former Huddersfield Giants hero was spotted in the dugout during the Tigers’ 44-0 thrashing by Hull KR last Friday.
Brough, who retired as a professional rugby league player back in 2021, has spent a number of seasons out of the sport altogether, coaching Huddersfield Rugby Union Club.
The joint fifth-highest points scorer in Super League history, Brough revealed to League Express back in June that he was open to coaching offers from both codes after two successful years at the Huddersfield helm.
For the past few months, the 43-year-old has been spotted alongside director of rugby Chester at Castleford games, but Chester – who is also currently part of the coaching team in the absence of Ryan Carr – has downplayed the appearance of Brough.
“He asked if he could come and shadow,” Chester said.
“I know Broughy is a smart guy and he did a really good job at Huddersfield rugby union.
“He’s a good friend and wanted to know what it looked like on the other side of the fence.
“He’s also my next-door neighbour and he’s come to quite a lot of games this year.
“There’s no headline there, he’s just a passionate rugby fan and former player.
“I wish he was out there playing for us!”
