Rochdale Hornets bring in Huddersfield Giants youngster

ROCHDALE HORNETS chairman Andy Mazey believes Alex Chippendale can make a name for himself at the club.

The outside back has been signed after leaving Huddersfield Giants, where he came through the Academy and made one first-team appearance, as a winger in the 52-12 home defeat by Hull KR in round four of the Challenge Cup in March.

Chippendale’s arrival at Hornets follows that of experienced Kiwi prop Mark Ioane, who was signed after a stint at North Wales Crusaders and made his debut in the recent 34-22 win at Keighley Cougars, another of his former clubs.

“When we found out Alex was leaving Huddersfield and looking to secure an opportunity in the Championship, we moved quickly to bring him over to meet (coach) Gary Thornton and the staff and group,” said Mazey.

“He is a quick, athletic outside back with a fantastic attitude, and he will be looking to make a name for himself at Championship level. I’m delighted we have secured his services.”

Chippendale said: “This is a big opportunity to grow and test myself. The club’s belief in young players stood out to me.”

Rochdale head to Widnes Vikings for a big 1895 Cup semi-final clash on Sunday.
