Testimonial man Brett Ferres thankful for his career

GOOLE VIKINGS captain Brett Ferres is “grateful” for everything Rugby League has given him – a list which now includes a twelve-month testimonial.

The 39-year-old former Super League and England forward has topped 450 career appearances.

He made his debut with Bradford in 2005, playing a role in their Super League-winning squad and featuring in the 2006 World Club Challenge.

His career has also taken in Wakefield, Castleford, Huddersfield, Leeds, Featherstone and Doncaster.

Ferres earned 16 caps for England, figuring in the 2013 World Cup. The same year, he was named in the Super League Dream Team after helping Huddersfield secure the League Leaders’ Shield. He then won the Grand Final with Leeds in 2017.

Ferres said: “I am really proud to have been awarded a testimonial by the RFL and would like to thank the club for supporting the application, as well as the other former clubs I have played for.

“I have been fortunate to have had a long and memorable career and played for some fantastic clubs with some brilliant teammates.

“Playing my 450th career game last year helped me reflect on the career I have had and now this gives me a great opportunity to share in that with my family and teammates.

“I am grateful for everything this sport has given me. It’s provided moments and memories I will cherish for a lifetime and the opportunity to work alongside some fantastic people – not just players but the coaches, the staff behind the scenes and the supporters.

“Hopefully we’ll get to enjoy a good year together and I’m looking forward to it.”
