Wigan Warriors ‘not getting carried away’ with scintillating win

MATT PEET maintained Wigan Warriors won’t get “carried away” with their impressive form after a devastating 48-10 victory at Wakefield Trinity.

After scoring 40 points against Hull KR in the Challenge Cup Final and Catalans Dragons in Paris, Wigan impressively surpassed that mark against fellow play-off challengers.

“The result was an important one for us,” said coach Peet.

“We recognise that Wakefield were missing a few players, particularly along the backline, but we still had to get the start of the game right.

“If you don’t get them right Wakefield have a formidable forward pack. We dealt with that, and then our backs showcased what they could do.

“We don’t get too carried away but I’m proud of the performance. We got the chance to play some good stuff.

“It could have been a very different night. It was important we got the foundations of our game in place, which allowed us to express ourselves.

“Some of the tries will look pretty and flamboyant but it’s built on getting that start right.”

As at Wembley, Bevan French came off the bench in the second half, with Peet saying: ” He’s topped up with the conditioning staff.

“It’s about building him back up and integrating him into the team at the right times, but it’s important to utilise the rest of our squad as well.

“He’s probably added a layer to what he did a couple of weeks ago.”
