What, you mean an inexplicably poor decision made by an RFL official might just favour Leeds' chances of finishing in the top four as opposed to Hull's?

How cynical, The RFL actually favouring Leeds - I can't believe that you would even suggest such a thing.

You seriously think that Steve Ganson gave that to favour Leeds hopes of a top four finish?

That's ######, Ganson saw it clearly as a try, no need to go to the video ref. Sky keep showing it in slow motion, they should show it at full speed (see my earlier post).

He obviously had no doubts.

So he sees something and is sure....but should send it to the video ref

what you're saying is ALL tries should be decided by the video ref wacko.gif

Not wanting to fall out but I agree with Richard in that the technology is there so use it and then maybe we won't have tries being given when they quite clearly aren't.

I don't think Richard is saying that at all.

But Ganson was looking straight at the incident, so why didn't he see the dropped ball.

I remember back in 2001 at the JJB in a Challeneg Cup semi-final between St Helens and Leeds when Tommy Martyn went over for St Helens which looked a clear cut try but Russell Smith went to the video referee and it was proven on the slow-mo that he dropped it.

But it wasn't clear that it wasn't a try, as I said before nobody said a beep until Sky showed the ultra slo-mo from behind the sticks. Until then neither the commentators nor the Hull fans complained, until that point it was clearly a try.

I agree with Padge and others, if you've got the game recorded, watch it from the try angle, can you see it dropped? I couldn't and neither could I on any of the other normal speed angles until I saw the slow motion version. If I were assessing Ganson in this game, I wouldn't be marking him down as at normal speed it looked like a perfectly good try.

Unless we get to the thoroughly idiotic situation of all tries going to video refs then you will get these things happening. And, yes, it would be brain-dead idiocy to go to video refs for every try.

Edit: I won't be locking this as long as it stays "Ganson is ######", if it goes to his motives (you know what I mean) then it gets locked and warnings/bans get handed out. We won't normally shield refs from criticism about their competence unless it gets nasty.

Money can't buy happiness... but it can buy bacon which is close enough.

I'm with Ganson on this one. He made a boo-boo, one copy book blot. It was close and he should've gone to the video referee, he's now learnt.

I can't argue with any of that Padge, but regardless of the slow-mo, Steve Ganson was in the perfect position to see the dropped ball.

I would like to see the camera that was behind Ganson in full speed to see it through the eyes of Ganson.

It's well documented that each full time match official gets 30k a year.

Why should he have gone to the video ref, everyone thought it was a try, the crowd did, the players did, the commentators did, the touch judges did and Ganson did.

You don't happen to have Warrington's player wages do you? It would make his Christmas if you did, he's been after those for a year or two. biggrin.gif

Anyhoo, the officials have been the most entertaining element of this game!
