What about the Championship Grand Final winners v the bottom placed team in SL.

Big game, winner gets the SL place.

SL club SHOULD win, if not, they deserve to get replaced.

Gives the RFL the huge balance in favour of the SL team. Gives the Championship teams hope

And with Cats at the bottom of SL and IF they did lose the Championship side wouldn't get the place.

What condescending ######

Go onto the Leigh messageboard and you'll see how fecked off people are.

We will now go from being a club with around 2-3k support to perhaps 1k (which is roughly what Eagles get)

Do you want all non-SL clubs to be "getting used to the fact that their club will not be in Super League" and getting sub 1k crowds? That is the future my friend until 2015

Do you think that all non-Sl clubs getting sub-1k crowds is good for RL? People are not gobshytes. They will not watch their club in >1k crowds if there is no promotion for 5 years. You'll get the hardy care-in-the-community types, WAGs and other family members but that's about it

Condescending ######?

If people in Leigh are so fickle that they'll only watch their team if they have a chance of promotion, then they're a sorry lot. What happened to supporting your team because they represent your community, because you love the game, because Rugby League is the greatest game of all?

Anyway, there is plenty to play for - silverware, for starters. Whether or not you get promoted, there are still three trophies to win - the NR Cup, the league leaders shield and the Grand Final/Play-off series. Wouldn't that keep Leigh fans happy?

This obsession with promotion and relegation is nuts. Yes, I'm sure people in Leigh would like to see their team in Super League, but then again I'm sure people in Rochdale would like to see their football club in the Premiership, but it's not going to happen.

One day, you might get another crack at Super League, and if you do, good luck to the Leythers. But before then there's plenty that needs doing - the junior Academy for starters (at present, only two Championship Clubs have put in to join the Academy/Scholarship scheme for next year - Fev and Sheffield. Fax and Leigh got put off by the RFL's ludicrous policies regarding how much teams have to pay juniors).

So what if you have a nice RECTANGULAR stadium. It means sod all.

I'm sure that's what Blackpools fans thought a couple of years ago.

And Wigan Athletic, Bradford City, Burnley, Barnsley etc

West Country - 95% of RL fans are fickle! Thats why crowds vastly increase when a club is at the top of the pile

People will not watch en masse a no-mark lower division without proper P&R in any sport in the UK

People never have watched lower league RL en-masse. Look at the crowds in "Another Bloody Sunday" from 30 years ago.

The co-op championship will be a morgue next year. Less fans will go to home games and less fans will travel. As I said you'll be left with the fans who watch amateur RL , the care-in-the community types and the WAGs. Between 500-1000

Thanks for that - I'm not sure which group you'd place me in but I'm sure you'll let me know.

Don't you think you'd just be much happioer watching soccer where there will be some nice big crowds for you to stand in and you can sing your head off too? As you have said you don't really have much interest in what goes on on the pitch, so I think it would be ideal for you.

Extremely naive.

Most people don't go for these reasons. They go because they enjoy it, they enjoy the drama and the passion.

Like it or not taking away promotion and relegation takes away a lot of that drama and passion. The dream of a shot at the big time might be unlikely but it's enough to get you excited.

I grew up with the best RL team on the planet that had a quick demise. The first time we were out of Super League, the focus was purely on getting promoted. You bought a season ticket in the hope that you could get promoted. Now even though my side look set to be in Super League in 2012, almost all passion has gone from the games. If I'm honest I go more out of loyalty to my club and the game than I do out of enjoyment.

I feel for Leigh fans I really do. 5 years is a lot to stomach and they'll find it really difficult to pick themselves back up from this.

People never have watched RL in general en-masse since the 1950's

Look at any Rothmans up until 4up/down P&R was got rid of and you'll find that the crowds in the 2nd tier RELATIVE to the top tier were much much closer.

By the way I have watched another Bllody Sunday. No suprise that you picked THE worst team in RL at the time. However some of the crowds in the programme are still significantly higher than those at our worst teams currently in the Co-op Div 1
