In Topic: Ref attacked in amateur rugby league game

19 November 2014 - 05:46 PM

Having played and now coached for more years than i care to remember, i have seen most things. I have seen team brawls, racism and harrassment of referees and players.

Thankfully, the behaviour in Hull in my opinion has improved dramatically and this is credit to the Hull league management. However, i wish we could ban parents and family from matches because in my opinion they are the ones who stir the poop.

I have had good refs and bad refs control our games this season. We have lost some tight games because of poor calls but that is the way it goes. I have been furious in my mind but that is where it stays and i always thank the ref. The problem is the parents who just can't or will not shut up. They know knack all about the game but constantly whinge about every decision and this gets on my bloody ####.

Talking of the Yorkshire Youth teams, we played a Yorkshire Cup match about 3 weeks ago in Yorkshire. We lost a very good game against a really nice group of players, coaches and parents. I am really happy to see that they have progressed to the Semi Final of the comp.

The referee was also very good in this game.

I have taken teams in to Yorkshire dozens of times and always have a nice time.

You don't suppose it's due to improvements in drug testing?

Surely not ;-)

Jacksy I fully appreciate that McDermott has been a very successful coach and that it’s ludicrous to suggest he should be fired, likewise who am I to judge that Sinfield is not a number 7 when he was voted as the best player in the world playing in that position. Ultimately this is my point, I have opinions but they are not as qualified as those in power – we need to trust the professionals to do a professional job.

Many England fans feel that McNamara has not done a good job yet we have progressed enormously since he has been in charge. I appreciate it’s a results business and we have yet to get results but we have come very close and the progression is there to see.

Leeds is a similar thing – IMO they had a very good year last year, only two games being lost by more than a try. Many people on this forum will be critical of Leeds’ 6th place finish however as a Leeds fan I can see past that, I buy into the idea of resting players and blooding some younger kids.

Good :-) we agree that McD is a good coach who gets results. I wish FC had a coach like him.
I am not suggesting that England have not improved(Deacons role??) under Mc's tenure. I am convinced though that he will not get the results desperately needed by English RL.

We cannot keep accepting close but no cigar results..In my opinion we are out of another tournement because of him.

Think about some of the tactics, discipline issues and opportunies he has missed.

Remind me MyMrsWouldPreferSinfield how many finals have Leeds Rhinos contested under McD?

LF is right...The gallant losers title is for losers. It's about time we got back to accepting nothing but success in this Country. Too many are happy that we were close, for me that is not good enough. Can you imagine Murphy, Whiteley, Turner, Sullivan, Mills or Karalius being happy with 3rd in a four horse race.

I said McNamara was the wrong man for the job. He does not select the right players, tactics or even possess the ability to out think his opposite numbers. Psychology wise he misses opportunites to manipulate and pressurise the opposition and officials.

He has a terrible win/loss ratio and lets be honest his CV coach wise domestically is also very poor. How can he lead and inspire the English boys to the summit of the mountain.

As for the RFL, Ralph Rimmer et al..trying to turn another tournement defeat into some sort of victory, words fail me
