  1. Graham you might want to make this a sticky given that England will be touring next year and in 2026 when the next world cup will be held. Others especially all those that live down there feel free to add to the thread. Opal cards (NSW) v Translink Cards (Queensland) An Opal card once registered will allow you to retain your balance for your next trip so say you left Sydney with a balance of 34 Aud in 2025 on arrival at Sydney in 2026 this would still be on your card. The card in Queensland by contrast marks itself as defunct after 12 months non use. But there is a catch if you present your old card at the airport on arrival then it will be loaded onto and it will work, on the first day. The second day it will not. Now you can get a refund but that is only to an Australian Bank account in Australian Dollars So the moral is get a new card each time you visit Queensland. Getting away from Townsville Withiut being too disrespectful, theres not a lot to do in Townsville, so if your up for the rugby then you would probably stay the two days. The problem is leaving and Taxi services even pre-booked at a flate rate of 26 aud are notoriously unreliable as I cam attest from a previous visit on 2004 when my cab failed to turn up and I made my flight by the skin of my teeth. There is a more reliable Airport Shuttle run by a South African Couple for only 10 and one way which is not only cheap but also reliable. Ticketek These days you have to book your tickets in advance for some of the more "boutique" Australian grouns but when it comes to downloading to your Goohle Wallet your ticket.may have the right details but it will not scan. One example, being Canterbury Bulldogs v Gold Coast Titans where my ticket details were correct but the date given was 31st December 2024. I ligned up at tre back of the queue and duly prsented my ticket for scanning to the woman at the entrance. It did not scan So I was despatched to the ticket office presented my mobile. They saw it was a legitimate purchase, photographed the ticket on my mobile and issued me a new ticket. So I went back to the entrance with my new paper ticket and it did not scan, so zi had four of them round me the chief saying "it's already scanned" I explained to them what had happened without descending into Latrell post match interview mode, and they eventually relented and let me in. Going to West Tigrrs later, I made a beeline for the ticket office and had a stress free entry to leichardt oval. The advice here is go to the ticket office FIRST on the day. Unlike the old days there are no ticketek offices in town you cannot sort this pre game day. Specialist Shops selling Rugby League items The best of these is still Peter Wynn's score situated over by Landmark Corner on Paramatta having moved from Church Street. Though it would appear that this shop is to move judging by the sign outside. Then you have Mick Simmonds Sports which is located opposite the Queen Victoria Building (QVB). This is a general sports store which has a lot of NRL items such as the histotical Club badges sets. You also have What's Your Team on the redcliffe peninsular boulevard not fir from the Bee Gees monument which id an NRL only store. Post pandemic none of these stores,. and there used to be more, are what they were due to a combination of online ordering and larger retail chains such as rebel sport.
  2. Actually it was an Interview with the kid himself and the point being made was if you have a choice, the existence of a credible profile international programme is an incentive for any player.
  3. A lot of beefing notably by The Mole and Phil Gould about the Joey Manu no try. I think the issue here is one of consistency I was in line in the GA seating where the no-try was "scored" and fine if you do that but if that was the case why not refer the first Penrith try in the far corner se and half as a similar "obstruction" took place? The decision would not IMO have been the game changer the Media are making it out to be. .
  4. The board got this one right.and the final score flattered the Roosters who were simply outplayed. Penrith committed three to the tackle and slowed the Roosters down forcing attacks to go crab like and sideways while exploiting the gaps opening up on Daniel Tupou's right flank. The only Roosers to stand out were Joey Manu and Dominic Young in a side well beaten playing a Penny Panthrrs side shorn of Nathan Cleary and James Fisher- Harris. If you want to be the best you have to beat the best, the Roosters have dropped NINE consecutive games to the Penny Panthers. This makes the Roosters pretenders not premiership contenders. If I am having another troubled night following another tip going south, can Trent Robinson sleep easily tonight.... Attendance 25898
  5. Poll - 1 or 2 teams Winners - Sydney Roosters, South Sydney, Brisbane Broncos Manly Sea Eagles, Dolphins, New Zealand Warriors, Canberra Raiders, Paramatta Eels Points - 326 Away Wins - 3
  6. You may also wish to add that a 19 year old NSW Waratahs starlet has knocked back the Roosters on the 6.00pm Channel 9 news on the grounds that he gets to play against the B&I Lions next year and may extend his contract to cover the 2027 home union world cup.
  7. As of this morning the Sydney Daily Telegraph estimates more than 50 players injured within the first three rounds and some of those named in the starting line up / squad are subject to late fitness tests Sydney Roosters v Penrith Panthets No Nathan Cleary who wss in imperious form against the Bronx. Despite that the Penny Panthers remain a champion side and not likely to roll over. Foe the Rooosters with Keary and Walker available in the halves the question is which set of Chooks turn up. The side that beat the Bronx and Wabbits or the side that choked against Manly. That is the key to the game. #### a doodle do ? South Sydney v Canterbury Bulldogs I suppose starting Damien Cook and Tom Burgess and not deciding to have Latrell Mitchell and Lachlan Ilias as your starting props represents a return to coaching sanity by Jason Demitriou but frankly if JD is your coaching answer to Souffs woes your asking the wrong question. The Bulldogs got more fluid as the game wore on at Belmore admittedly against Gold Coast. They key to this game is the bomb on the last tackle and the kick chase because sides that are kicking to Latrell and following up with a good kick chase find that not only does he get little go forward the rest of the South pack does not either Run Rabbit run? Brisbane Broncos v North Queensland Cowboys. Payne Haas and Reece Walsh out and Adam Reynolds subject to a late fitness test On the face of it never a better chance for the Cows to win at Suncorp but bear in mind; The baby Broncos are good as anyone who watched the trial games will attest with a big wrap being given to Tristan Sailor son of Wendell who will be starting at fullback. The Cows are slow starters spotting the opposition a big early lead which they pulled back against the Knights and SGI but spotting a 14 point lead to the Bronx may prove to a mountain too big to climb. Cowbells ringing at Suncorp? St George Illawarra v Manly Sea Eagles SGI have reinforced their pack with returnees but should the Manly pack gain parity with SGI then their backs could cause carnage down the 'Gong against a side that has leaked 86 points iirc in the last 2 games. SGI also have the Curse of the Bobbleheads to contest with last year's bobblehead Zak Lomax wanting out and this year's Mikaele Ravalawa woefully out of pace and form. No Ben Hunt bobblehead as he was the first to want out. If Manlys backline gets time and space there might be a few going early.. Dragons fire extinguished? Gold Coast Titans v Dolphins Dolphins becoming every non diehards favourite other team with the ability not just to score length of the field tries but repeat tries off repest sets. Gold Coast have managed 4 points in 2 games. I will leave it there. Titans cut down to size by Phins? New Zealand Warriors v Newcastle Knights This game could be a lot closer than some think. A lot depends on the mercurial Warriors and how they approach the game. Newcsstle are winning and losing by tight margins, I expect no different here. Good Knight? Cronulla Sharks v Canberra Raiders Ricky's revived Raiders breeze into Woolooware. This Raiders team unlike those of the recent past has backs with pace up against a Cronulla side with a makeshift pack. Mauled by the West Tigers Craig Fitzgibbon will be hoping for a response from the Sharkies but that kind of depends on the Canberra Pack led by Josh Papalil'i. Sharks harpooned in Botany Bay? Paramatta Eels v West Tigers No Mitchell Moses amid a number of injuries for a Paramatta side that welcomes back Msika Sivo " the baron of bankwest" or should it really be " count of commsbank". There fixed it for you Mr Voss.. Up against a West Tigers team buoyed by victory last week and a side that always goes up a gear against Paramatta. Not an easy game for the Eels and a potential upset here. Tiger tiger burning bright?
  8. One point that's not made on here, is that if you get any suburban train with Australian boys or girls you may be surprised to note the conversation seems not be be able to be conducted without using F£@##&& in almost every sentence. Less F-bombing more like F-carpet bombing with only the ever increasing number of South and East Asian children able to hold a normal conversation. At Leichardt on Saturday on the hill though there was no air of menace or trouble between fans but the game was conducted to a barrage of F-bombing which passes for banter in Aussie yobbo culture. It's a society problem and it's pretty rich for Australian journalists, many of whom engage in a bit of "banter" themselves and think themselves lovable larrakins fir doing so, to virtue signal about such uncouth language from a player who has a microphone shoved in his face straight after the final hooter has gone on a loss. That's not excusing Latrell Mitchell, but it puts this confected furore into context. As I said earlier in this thread, Latrell is a lighting rid for controversy in the Goldfish bowl of the NRL. He needs to spend a couple of years in Suprr League where to the vast majority of the population he will be Latrell who ? and will enable him to develop sporting life skills thst could rescue his wayward career.
  9. Thanks for the tips but my attendance would be based on whether I am in the country at the time or if there is a clash with an NRL game. I have stayed in Cleveland before for a Bronx game against New Zealand Warriors. Nothing wrong with Cleveland or my motel but it's the literal end of the line and a long journey in and out if the centre. Although I would agree that Brisbane is a better venue than Sydney my aim during these visits is to maximise the number of sporting events I am at and as only two of the NRL teams in the Brisbane area play at home on an NRL weekend. You will see why I prefer Sydney. My current trip involves seeing 13 matches in Rounds 2 ro 4 so am currently based in Paramatta for rounds 3 and 4. This is not a normal year for me as I like to stay in the Miranda / Caringbah area when in Australia hence I see a lot of the Sharks, SGI and the Roosters along with NSW Cricket at the SCG and (cough) the Waratahs. I am still managing 1 home and 1 away for Sharkies and SGI and 2 Rooster home games on this trip.
  10. Breaking - Mitchell Moses has a fracture and will miss half the season while Nathan Cleary has a groin strain and will be out for a month. Sorry link's are beyond me on a mobile phone
  11. PI have been travelling to New Zealand and Australia since 1993, for Cricket and Rugby League, with a two year break during the pandemic. Brisbane Broncos - Suncorp Stadium Canberra Raiders - GIO Stadium Canterbury Bulldogs - Stadium Australia, Belmore. Cronulla Sharks - Shark Park *1 Dolphins - Kayo Stadium Redcliff *2 Gold Coast Titans- Suncorp Stadium, Carrara Stadium, Robina Manly Sea Eagles - Brookvale Oval, Gosford Stadium Melbourne Storm- Olympic Park, AAMI Stadium Newcastle Knights - Mcdonald Jones Stadium. Northern Eagles*3 - Gosford Stadium North Queensland Cowboys - Dairy Farmers Stadium, Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Mackay Showgrounds (Trial) Paramatta Eels - Paramatta Stadium, Commsbank Stadium Penrith Panthers - Blue Bet Stadium South Sydney - Redfern Oval*4, Sydney Football Stadium, Stadium Australia. 12. Been announced down here that there will be Four new NRL teams for Vegas in 2025. One of which was named as the Penrith Panthers. With the other three TBA. The plan is to hold a NRLW women's game as well. The question here is what if one of the 2025 Vegas teams is the NRL premiers. Wither the World Club Challenge ?
  13. Paramatta v Manly was the best game I have been at for the last five days. Manly leapt out to a 14-0 lead in the first 10 minutes cutting parramatta open on the right flank. Before Paramattas forwards achieved dominance and Mitchell Moses played a blinder making the first try with a crossfield kick before scoring the second and also making some telling defensive contributions in the game. With Manly getting little go forward after the first 20 minutes, it was left to the backs to exploit any openings for a quick line break which they did before the break going in with a half-time lead. The second half went the same way as the last 20 of the first, with Parramatta dominating possession but remaining vulnerable to line breaks. Good win for Paramatta for Manly they have the firepower in the backs to put points on any side but they need their forwards to provide a platform for this Attendance 20354
  14. Canterbury Bulldogs v Gold Coat Titans For a scoreline thst reads 32-0 to the Dogs you would be surprided to read that it was an even first 20 mins with the Titans bombling the chance to get the first try. What broke the game open was Kikaus chargedown try that put the Doggies two scores up. From then on in the second half it was one way traffic with Gold Coast coughing up possession and defensively looking a solid as melting ice cream. Look at some of the tries where one attacker fends off 2-3 defenders Bulldogs are still a work in progress but by bringing in experienced players from teams with winning cultures they will be an NRL force to be reckoned with in 2025 and 26 Attendance 12098 iirc West Tigers v Cronulla Sharks The league of the unexpected took a new twist this evening, again like the Bulldogs game. Sharkies made the early running and got the first try and I think everybody including the large Sharks contingent in the crowd thought this is the way it was going to be. Wests got back in the game with a crossfield kick being deflected backwards for a score and this swung the game. Tigers fumbled over the line got ahead in the game and then scored right on the half-time hooter. To finish the half 18-6 up. Sharkies had not respected possession in the first half had managed to give away needless penalties such as kicking the ball out on the full. But still they would bounce back in the second half would they not? But Wests forwards dominated the second stanza and 32-6 was a fair reflection of the game. A lot for Benji and the Tigers to build on from this game. Confidence from beating a top 8 ranked side being one thing. Tipsters beware this is now a different breed of Tiger. With Sharkies you cannot help but feel they do not score enough points and if they get behind by two scores struggle In my opinion, Cronulla has stood still since 2022 and the rest of the league has improved. This is something that the coaching staff need to address. Attendance 15990 iir
  15. The Roosters are eating rabbit pie and I am eating humble pie This spells the end for Jason Demitriou as Souffs coach jeered by the wabbit faithful as he came on screen. Only Latrell,s sin binning 15 mins from the end got a bigger jeer from the crowd. The scoreline does not lie in this game but reflects the Roostets dominance in a performance that, at times, resembled a training run. JD has lost the Souths dressing room as evidenced by the entire team wanting to get off the park before the half-time hooter had sounded Souths were appalling, dropped balls, missed tackles, easting possession and giving a general air if indifference which has surely been noted. It matters not if ( and its a big if)Souffs an beat the Doggies next week for powerbrokers at the club must surely know the minute they come up against anyone half decent they will be second best under JD I would be surprised if he lasts the week, certainly he is now a lame duck coach. I cannot explain why I felt it in my water that the wabbits could win this (apart from a URTI) for having tipped Souffs to win against the Roosters. I am going to sleep on a bed with sharp nails on it tonight in penance...
