Setting a leopard loose in the crowd and giving a season ticket to the first one it bites. Interesting...

What now for the French national team?
tim2 replied to Gerrumonside ref's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Saying "Catalans in SL was supposed to improve France but hasn't" doesn't really cut it. Cats are a commercial enterprise that has to get foreign players to compete, given that they could be relegated (at the moment). It would be fairer in that scenario to match France against a team composed of English players only from St Helens and Featherstone. -
I'm no fan of Ed Sheeran's music - it's a bit bland and there are equally good if not better singer-songwriters around who haven't got the drive for fame that he has. But this lawsuit is ridiculous - a couple of similar chords in a different key doth not plagiarism make.

Proposed Online Gambling Limits

A guy from a gambling company was on the Evan Davies programme on Radio 4. He was asked about the 'benefits of gambling' that he had said there were. He replied: 1. Taxes for the government 2. Horse racing would disappear 3. The Premier League is successful because of sponsorship Bit grim if that's it. 3 is a bit of a stretch. -

Same as being able to have a few glasses of wine without it turning into a bottle of vodka a day starting when you wake up. Or being able to have a joint without becoming a crack addict. Some people can manage it, others not so much. -

In France the Welsh RU team had to put "Brawn" on their shirts instead of "Brain's" which is a type of beer. This change was almost certainly also more accurate as a representation of the shirt's contents. -

I can't remember whether moral pressure or legislation forced them to stop alcohol and tobacco. Probably the latter. -
I reffed St Joseph's at fartwon once - it was very weird. Like performing a play in a derelict theatre. A few rusted turnstiles were still there.

Beacon Hill was great - it's 722 on the list and bl99dy hard work in the first 3K. I was very happy with sub 28 minutes. Cafe is grand too. The hardest I've done in the rankings is Lyme Park at 748. It's my slowest time. Hull is my fastest time and it's 4th easiest. Don't fancy Yarmouth at all - running on soft sand. Give me hills any time! Having done 107 (96 in the UK) I think they start getting tricky at about 400 downwards. I'm slightly surprised by some of the ordering in the middle - I think it's a bit weighted by how many regular runners there are vs fun runners. I'm 27 days in doing a 30 day challenge to run 3 miles (5K for me as I'm metric and obsessed with rounding) - it's supporting my daughter's fundraising for Cancer Research UK.

In many ways it's worse than beer and drugs, certainly financially. And it's invisible. Everything seems normal then somebody's had a breakdown saying they've lost all their money and their house in a matter of months. Sport should move away from betting companies ASAP. Not sure how Horse Racing can do it, though. Although I don't think horses and dogs are the main issue compared to online casinos. Jesus, I worked in software development and there's no way I would trust betting with a computer program. And it's so quick. -
Hating Yorkshire and wanting them to lose is something I can fully get behind.

If they'd been popular, they wouldn't have been scrapped.

RFL trialling new laws to reduce head contact

Some of the biggest hits are in regular play when a team is fired up and has high line speed with multiple tacklers. Full backs and wingers are pretty good at avoiding big impacts on kick returns. -
Indeed, if the premise is that you actually have a pyramid rather than separate leagues that are achieving different goals for different standards of club. Other sports don't have promotion and winning your league is an achievement in itself. Like winning the National Conference League. We have this historic attachment to P&R and a slightly embarrassing assumption that we are like football. It's killing us, but it seems we can't let it go.

Not 100% relevant, but interesting to observe what's happening in Rugby Union. Ealing Trailfinders are not going to be allowed to go into the Premiership because their ground holds 5,000 and the top level requires 10,000. They can't upgrade it because of where it is and they don't want to do what Wasps, London Irish,Saracens etc. did and move to another town. RU is also assessing whether to pull up the drawbridge by drastically cutting the funding to their Championship such that they will have to become part-time. I'm pretty sure this is partially in response to Wasps and Worcester having financial trouble but they would basically be creating an elite more like the NRL where entry would be by application. Realistically not many clubs in their Championship would gain entry right now and are therefore would probably be locked out indefinitely. The IMG proposals are a bit of a bodge to be honest, but at least they're offering a path that's more sustainable than throwing money at players to get a year at the top table and risking financial ruin, and not as draconian as those being discussed at Twikkers.

I decided not to enter because we were likely to be abroad in May. Good job as there's no way my achilles would manage 26 miles.
